Question for those of you that have successfully used the Friends/Preferred Pricing when buying/leasing a T&C. Dealers in my area (Michigan) seem to be adding in fees (advertising?) on top of the Preferred Price. I think this is BS and I'm entitled to the PP price listed on the invoice and they can only add on a $75 doc fee. I'm wondering if others have had dealers trying to stick additional fees on them? Does anyone know what the official program rules are? Are dealers allowed to do this?

A dealer can add up to $75 for a documentation fee on top of the Friends price that is listed on the actual invoice. Also, in some states the buyer pays the TTL at the dealer, so those would be legitimate additions. I mentioned the "marketing fee" to a group of Chrysler sales people at a local dealership as it pertains to the Friends discount and the sales manager shook his head and muttered something about unscrupulous dealerships. Here's a link to the official rules of the program: Chrysler Discount Programs Note: A dealer does not HAVE to sell a vehicle at the discount price. However, they should not try to act like they are giving the discount and then tack on additional bogus charges. Here is an interesting section from the above link: PREFERRED PRICE: A participating dealer submitting a claim under this Program must sell or lease the vehicle at the Preferred Price’ (a maximum of 1% below factory invoice plus a $75 administration fee) less any applicable incentive discount. Dealer must show the participant a copy of the Factory Invoice. Dealer installed options are negotiable between the participant and the dealer, and must be itemized and individually priced on a fully executed Bill of Sale, and Chrysler Affiliate Rewards Pricing and Acknowledgment Form signed by the Dealer and the purchaser/lessee. A net Bill of Sale without detail is not acceptable. The Dealer Price to purchaser/lessee is calculated by adding Dealer-Installed Options and/or Over Allowance on Trade amounts to the Preferred Price. The participant may not be charged for any preparation fees, delivery and handling charges, service or overhead fees, or any other such delivery fees under this Program. Documentation fees are allowable under the respective governing State in which the vehicle is titled. Documentation fees may not exceed those normally charged on any other sales transaction.

The salesman told me then, that there is a $200.00 administration fee for this program. If that is what the fee was for the EC program,I do not have a problem paying it,but if it is 75.00 then I have a problem. I have not taken delivery of the Van.So there is still time to deal with it.It has been allmost 9 weeks since I ordered it.Who knows when it will be built. I seen on TV that the plant is shut down due to the TRW strike. Yes,this is another Michigan dealer near Chrysler HQ

Under the now discontinued EC (Employee Choice) program there was the $75 documentation fee that all of us pay, employee or not. There was also a $200 processing fee that only pertained to the EC program. That was listed right on the program rules. Any other fees, such as marketing, dealer prep, or others mentioned in my previous message are not legitimate. When your T&C arrives at the dealer ask to see the invoice and look for the EP code in the list to verify the price they quoted you. Here's what it says about the EC fees on Chrysler's website: Q. Can you tell me what the discount will be on my new vehicle? A. As an eligible purchaser/lessee you have the right to see the factory invoice and the Employee Advantage Claim Form. Ask the dealer to show you the factory invoice and look for Employee Price (EP) on the invoice. That price is what the vehicle will cost you with the discount. Effective 9/17/2007 The new Employee Choice (EC) Price = Employee Price (EP on invoice) + $200 Program fee. If you are ordering a vehicle, ask the dealer to calculate the price for you. Q. My dealer wants to charge me a documentation fee. A. Dealers may charge up to $75 in documentation fees to help cover the cost of paperwork associated with the sale. For anyone who may be having a problem with their local dealer and the discount price: Q. I want to file a complaint about a particular dealership. Whom can I call? A. Please call Customer Relations at (800) 992-1997. They will be able to help you.

I have to say, the fact that I need to do this is really disappointing. This is supposed to be the easy way to buy a vehicle. Fixed price, no bs. Hoping to buy a T&C Sig this month if the incentives are good.

Replying to: pmwalker (Mar 02, 2008 4:47 pm) Same here. With interest rates dropping (my credit union just dropped their loan rates by .50%) I'm hoping that money factors on the T&C drop in March. With equivalent incentives as in February ($3250) and a lower money factor, the Signature package will become a very good deal. Money factors for February on the T&C Touring were .00181 and .00198 (36 and 27 months). Some Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep models were in the .0008 range in February. I can only hope that the T&C goes that low. One question regarding Marketing fees in relation to the Friends program. All of the invoices that I have seen from dealers show a regional marketing charge (about $800) that are included in the invoice price and are rolled into the friends pricing. I am assuming these charges are legit because they are included on the invoice. The marketing charges discussed a few topics back, I'm assuming, are additional dealer fees added to the bill of sale. Can anyone clarify?

Forget the invoice numbers, regional marketing charges, etc. The preferred price should be the sale price to you. Are you saying that the preferred price on the invoice includes the $800 regional market charge or is the dealer telling you that they must add it on to the preferred price? The initial question above was whether dealers are allowed to add ANYTHING to the preferred price on the invoice. I believe the answer to that is NO, the only exception being a $75 program fee. |
