I would never buy an extended warranty from the selling dealer without checking into other options for the purchase. When I recently bought my '08 T&C I passed on the lifetime bumper to bumper ($100 deductible) for about $2000 and the dealer immediately lowered the price $100 to try to convince me. I did some searching and ended up paying about $1500 for the same warranty on http://www.chryslerwarrantys.com/

By using a credit card I can always have the charged reversed if the warranty turns out to be anything less than they promised. Plus I'm allowed to change my mind and get 100% of my money back within 60 days. I figure if I don't get the promised paperwork from Chrysler by the time the 60 period starts to close in I'll just cancel it.

I thought it was a very important thing to have on the '08 because of all the electronics that are packed into the vehicle.

Thanks for the comment, flanders140.

Yes, I did turn down all the extended warranty offers from the dealer. It was just too much to sort through when we were closing the deal. I'm only looking at an extended warranty for the power train, not bumper-to-bumper. I would not even do that if the van had the same 7 year/70,000 mile power train warranty as my '05 Dakota truck has. Transmission work is one thing I cannot do myself (outside of changing the fluid).

Yes, if I do get one, it would be through Chrysler (www.chryslerwarrantys.com).

Don't let the names fool you, www.chryslerwarrantys.com is not a Chrysler company. They are an separate company that sells Chrysler warranties, much like the local dealer is a separate company. The difference is that they sell them for several hundred or more less than the dealer. But like I said, I'm still skeptical until I receive all the paperwork from Chrysler, only then will I be convinced that they are 100% legit.

You're right, I was fooled by the name! Official looking web site too!

I'm not sure how I feel about a third party extended warranty. AAA offers them as does my insurance company, GEICO. Consumer's Union had a report of them not too long ago (in the last year?) and (if I remember right) did not have much positive to say about the third part issued warranties.

Let us know what you think when you get your paper work.

Thanks.

Has anyone ordered a 2008 Chrysler Town Country and still waiting?
I placed a order for one on 01-02-2008. It has been eight weeks and the order is still in D status.
I do have a VIN for it.Chrysler told me it might be 3 or 4 days or 3 or 4 weeks before it could be built.
I also know after it has been built and it leaves Canada, it goes to Jefferson North and sits for a week or so before it ships 30 miles to the dealer.
Just curious if other people are waiting this long.
I ordered it on the last day that you could use the EC numbers.Maybe that has something to do with it if they received alot of orders that day.

I'm new to this board here ... found it while researching vehicles.

Wife & I have twins on the way (in addition to our 3-yr old) so we need to bite the bullet and get a minivan. Thinking of getting a Caravan or a T&C (aren't they the exact same vehicle?), or maybe even a Jeep Cherokee (I think the back seat has enough room for 3 car seats). I now see that the EC program ended in 2008. Money is real tight, so if anyone has a Friends code for 2008, then I would reeeeeealy appreciate it. .... I'll even put you on my Christmas card list!!

Sorry, no friends code for you. But if money is tight, why don't you look at a slightly used DGC or T&C. We just bought a 2007 DGC for $15.2K, with 21, 500 miles on it.

I would stay away from the jeep, IMO, unless you live in the boonies with lots of snow and really, REALLY need the full time 4WD. Costs too much to keep running, and uses more gas than the minivan.

Dodge (at least up through 2007) made a standard length van and the Grand. The Grand is about a foot longer overall and with a slightly longer wheelbase. The T&C is essentially the same as the GC, only better appointed. But, you pay for those bells and whistles. Mechanically, they are the same.

For whatever reason they removed that Mailbox link that used to be in the upper right. You can get to your mailbox options by clicking on My Carspace near the upper left of the screen.

Any moderators know why the Mailbox link was removed?
