Can anyone offer suggestions on extended warranties? I recently purchased a '08 Dodge Grand Caravan with a 7 yr/100K extended warranty from Fidelity Warranty Services through the dealer. The dealer called me the other day and indicated that the plan I paid for is no longer offered, so I have to decide on whether to go with some other coverage or cancel all together. Is it best to buy the warranty through the dealer (Chrysler or third party) or just go on the Internet and look around? If so, what should I expect to pay for a 7/100k or lifetime wrap warranty with a $100 deductible and what companies are known to be reputable? The last thing I want to do is buy a warranty and find out later I am going to have problems when trying to file a claim. One last thing, do most extended warranty companies cover the cost for a covered repair directly minus deductible, or do you have to pay up front and then submit a claim for reimbursement? Also, in general, is it worthwhile to purchase a maintenance package that covers oil changes, etc. or is it best to just skip it? I have not priced such a thing out myself yet and I was wondering if anyone out there can offer some suggestions. Sorry for all the questions and thank you so much!

Replying to: tkirchner (Nov 06, 2008 9:57 am) the way they work claims is that you charge it to the company's credit card, minus your deductible. so no out of pocket for the whole thing. i wouldn't purchase a maintenance package because prices may vary, but that's me. |

| I had a question about the pricing I see on CarMax.com It seems too good to be true. Is the pricing they have listed the price I can purchase the vehicle at? Anyone know? On another note, I see several posts asking for a pin/code for employee discount pricing...how much do you actually save? No sob story here, just looking to save some extra money in these tight times. Thanks! | |
