You really don't want to get into the "monthly payment" trap. Look at the overall cost you will be paying for the new vehicle and what you may have for a trade in and start comparing apples to apples. Send e-mails out to several dealers in your area asking for their bottom line price for the vehicle you're interested in. Find the lowest price (everything together: finance rate, trade in value, new vehicle price, etc.) and then start looking at what it will run you per month.

Replying to: paule (Jul 29, 2009 5:51 pm) Paule is completely right. If you're not even sure what is the duration of the loan you need to take a step back before you sign. The good news is that you already took the first step by asking here. You shouldn't be paying more than invoice minus rebates. In fact, you should be able to do a bit better than that. Grand Cherokees aren't exactly flying off the lot. Do some research, ask more questions here, and good luck. |

So your interest rate could be anywhere between 8% to 9%. I have no idea about your credit score, but you hopefully you can do better than that through a local bank/credit union. Having said that, I don't think $30,000 is an amazing deal. It's not bad, but not awesome. I bought a 2008 Limited 4x4 with HID ights and MyGig navigation (no HEMI, no Quadra drive II) for $34,000 in September 2008. I basically got it for invoice - rebates. Long story short, if you're happy with the price, go ahead and buy it. But take a few mins to email other dealers. Give them lots of details about the car you want so they know you're a serious buyer. If you get a lower price, it's always polite to give the first dealership the chance to match it. Also make sure that you try to get a cheaper interest rate. And since you're putting so little down, I think it'd be prudent to buy GAP insurance. Good luck and let us know how you make out. |

yes, looks like I am going to be getting 5.9% for the 72 months. I could also take 1000 back and 0% for 72 months, but them I am out the door at $37,000 and change. If i take all $5500 plus the $3000 off, I am out the door at $32,000 and chagne. I guess I'll have to live and learn. What is GAP insurance all about? Thanks everyone!

Replying to: msc2321 (Jul 30, 2009 9:24 am) Say you finance $32,000. When you drive that car off the lot, it's worth a lot less. It's a fact. If it's totalled (knock on wood), insurance will not pay you $32,000 which is what you owe on your loan. It will pay you what the car is worth. GAP covers that difference. If you didn't have it, you would have to pay that money yourself. Before you sign anything make sure you research it and read the fine print very carefully. And good luck, hope you like yours as much as we like ours. |

Replying to: mickeymouse1 (Aug 07, 2009 3:01 pm) I'd start shopping additional dealers. E-mail is the easiest way of doing today. What's up with the $675 fee? What's it for? A doc fee of $369 is way high in my opinion. I wouldn't bite at that myself. Look at additional dealers. |

Replying to: mickeymouse1 (Aug 07, 2009 3:01 pm) MSRP: $47,500 Less $4,500 rebate, $1000 cash bonus, $1000 Conquest Cash (may only be for Mid Atlantic region) + 0% financing. (go to jeep.com and check incentives) Both dealers gave me a price of $37k. That's $10k plus off MSRP. I think I can get it for $35K. Plus, a salesman other than mine said they will be getting more 2009 models shipped next week. This is the inventory Chrysler/Jeep did not ship when they shut down production a couple of months ago. Agree with others -- What are these fees? I wouldn't pay them. Chrysler pays the dealers to process purchased vehicles. Check multiple dealers websites and see how many of the model you want they have on hand. It's a buyers market!
