Replying to: ateixeira (May 16, 2006 9:07 am) We live in SF where tax is 8.5%. I mistakenly wrote earlier that we were making a downpayment of $1420, actually that represents the 1st month payment, fees, etc. No additional money down. Thanks for the perspective.

SE, OK, missed that part. Low $18s around here at the no-haggle place, plus a few options puts it in the mid-to-high 18s. That tax rate is painful but you can't escape it, so now the number seems about right.   -juice Replies to this message: xwesx (May 19, 2006 7:00 pm)

Did any of you guys who have recently bought (or are buying) an Outback get an extended warranty or pre-paid maintenance plan? I just saw that the pre-paid maintenance plan can be used at any Subaru dealer, which is a plus.   I'm still trying to decide about these final two details. Replying to: chrisl22 (May 22, 2006 9:11 am) We have a Subaru Gold warranty on our Legacy, but that was way back in 2002 and the pricing has changed since then.   One nice benefit - you get roadside assistance for the entire duraction, 7 years in our case.   -juice

I remember that. I'm wondering, too, if someone has a recent price...and any feeling about the prepaid maintenance plan, now that I know it can be used at any Subaru dealership.

Granted, they're scraping by, but it's not as if they have nothing left after paying the manufacturer for the car you bought at invoice.    That said, you paid invoice of $30842? No rebate? That's $1500 the dealer made right there, plus whatever he charged you in doc fees.

We are contemplating buying our first Subaru - pretty much a base model version: 2006 2.5i wagon 4EAT-S, white with taupe cloth, auto, auto-dimming mirror and floor mats. It was a dealer demo and has 4000 miles on it. A Virginia dealership is offering it at $22,229 (plus Taxes and tags). Based upon my research, I am planning to offer them $19,454 for this vehicle ($22,229 less the $2500 rebate less the $275 SDAF). I'd appreciate any thoughts re this deal and/or counter-offer. Thx. I'm only 5' even and am deciding between a 2006 Forester or a 2006 Outback. The Subaru dealer put them both on equal financial footing for me, so the decision comes down to the fantastic visibility of the Forester or the luxury bells and whistles of the Outback. Their being pretty much the same price surprised us, but we figured it had to do with this month's rebates, etc.    Has any one else decided between the two?
