Used 2005 Outback in Springfield, MO by greenice

A Subaru dealer in Springfield, MO has about a dozen used 2005 Outbacks for sale (base model, automatic). This seems to be a big inventory given that MO is not exactly Subaru country, and Springfield is not a big city.

They have between 12000 and 18000 miles. Maybe rentals ??
The dealer is asking $19,788. Given the fact that new 2005 Outbacks are advertised at $21500 in St. Louis, this seems
a bit high, but probably not by much.

What should I offer?

Question on Incentives and FitzMall by wmquan

Are there additional incentives on 2006 models beyond the $1,000 customer rebate?

www.fitzmall.com shows prices on LL Beans that are about $1,600-$1,700 below invoice. With the $1,000 rebate part of that savings, are they really letting go of most of their holdback?

Is there an additional incentive that Edmunds does not list? Or is there a catch here?

Thanks in advance.

Purchased '06 Bean in MA by rpark

Mid-to-late November bought an '06 bean (list $33120) for $28974 including all dealer fees, but before tax & tags. Started with the internet, and all dealing over the phone, worked with 3 dealers. Two were just under $30K but the third was lower by about $900, so went with them. This was much easier than going to the dealers in person, saved time, gas, and aggravation. I thought it was a fair price.

There must be some sort of bonus if they reach a certain quota, and they must expect to meet that. I know that's the case for the Tribeca, they only get a $1000 incentive if they sell a certain number, and someone there told me they expect to meet it.

Not sure if that exists for the Legacy, but the price sounds more than fair either way. They basically are giving the entire holdback.

The Tribeca bonus was for last month, they pulled it.

New SUV in Colorado Springs by desertrat5

As a long time member of Edmunds, I value the input of all. I was just recently transferred from Phx to Colorado Springs and am now looking for a SUV. The list of candidates include

Mercury Mariner
Nissan Murano
Toyota Highlander
Toyota RAV4 (new 2006 w/ V6)
Subaru Outback Turbo with auto
Subaru Forrester Turbo with auto

I welcome your experience with any of these vehicles as well as with the Colorado Springs dealers of the same.

Thanks much

Neither the Outback nor the Forester feel like they are true SUV's. Their handling and use of space is more similar to a tall wagon's. If you're looking for a vehicle with the SUV feel, you'd be better off with the B9 Tribeca.

At altitudes where you'll be much of the time, a turbo can really carry an advantage - they can compensate for the thin air and not lose power like N/A engines do.

06 Foresters make 230hp (conservative estimate) plus get 21/26 mpg, not a bad power/economy balance for mile high places.

Hey prosa

Thanks for the words. I really like space but I also prefer something that handles better than a sofa on soft springs. Hence the consideration to the Subarus.

I had a 96 Jeep GC and while it was wonderful off road, it was not at all fun on road. Since I don't anticipate any heavy duty off road from here on, I think I will put more emphasis on handling. Also economy is important today. And lastly, the air molecules are far apart up here in Colorado Springs - the turbo pretty much eliminates that issue.

Happy holidays
