A Subaru dealer in Springfield, MO has about a dozen used 2005 Outbacks for sale (base model, automatic). This seems to be a big inventory given that MO is not exactly Subaru country, and Springfield is not a big city. They have between 12000 and 18000 miles. Maybe rentals ?? The dealer is asking $19,788. Given the fact that new 2005 Outbacks are advertised at $21500 in St. Louis, this seems a bit high, but probably not by much. What should I offer? greenice |

Are there additional incentives on 2006 models beyond the $1,000 customer rebate? www.fitzmall.com shows prices on LL Beans that are about $1,600-$1,700 below invoice. With the $1,000 rebate part of that savings, are they really letting go of most of their holdback? Is there an additional incentive that Edmunds does not list? Or is there a catch here? Thanks in advance. |

Mid-to-late November bought an '06 bean (list $33120) for $28974 including all dealer fees, but before tax & tags. Started with the internet, and all dealing over the phone, worked with 3 dealers. Two were just under $30K but the third was lower by about $900, so went with them. This was much easier than going to the dealers in person, saved time, gas, and aggravation. I thought it was a fair price.

As a long time member of Edmunds, I value the input of all. I was just recently transferred from Phx to Colorado Springs and am now looking for a SUV. The list of candidates include Mercury Mariner Nissan Murano Toyota Highlander Toyota RAV4 (new 2006 w/ V6) Subaru Outback Turbo with auto Subaru Forrester Turbo with auto I welcome your experience with any of these vehicles as well as with the Colorado Springs dealers of the same. Thanks much Bob |

Hence the consideration to the Subarus. I had a 96 Jeep GC and while it was wonderful off road, it was not at all fun on road. Since I don't anticipate any heavy duty off road from here on, I think I will put more emphasis on handling. Also economy is important today. And lastly, the air molecules are far apart up here in Colorado Springs - the turbo pretty much eliminates that issue. Happy holidays |
