If you are set on an all-season tire, then the Tripletred is a good tire for rain/ice/snow (plus it has a tremendous treadwear warranty of 80,000 miles). The down side is that you loose some fuel economy due to the agressive tread pattern. I estimate about 5-10% decrease.
Although the investment is greater up front, replacing the tires with a summer or dry/wet biased all-season tire and getting an additional set of mounted winter tires would extend the life of both sets and provide for improved winter handling (assuming your son plans to keep the car long enough to use both sets significantly).

nokiantyres.com.... go out to their site and check the "wr' series..they are hard to find but they are the only all-season tire marked "severe service" ....They will probably cost about $600 for 4 but they are EXCELLENT tires...you only get what you pay for....

Whew... with only a 50,000 mile treadwear? With the savings from not buying the second set of rims I suppose one might see significant benefit from them if the car was not kept more than one or two sets of replacement tires!

Twins! Congratulations! Speaking from recent and ongoing experiences be sure to get as much sleep as you can now. Also, get all your errands and repairs done now because you'll soon be house-bound and tired. But it's all good and very magical.

I have the Subaru guaranteed trade in on my '05 2.5i wagon and want to get an '07 Silver Outback LTD wagon but can't find one anywhere in the southwest. I'm in New Mexico. Have until Jan 2nd. Lots of XT's but no 2.5i Ltd's. Any suggestions?

Can you order? Or do you have to take delivery from stock?

Has to be from stock. I see places like Fitzmall, on the East Coast, has them but I would have to have it shipped and then how do I handle the trade in? I only have 16,000 miles on it.

I would let local dealers know that's what you want and see if they can arrange the trade. It might cost a tad more - I've heard they don't get the holdback for those cars, which amounts to 2% of the base invoice, or about $400 on a $20k sale.

Yeah.. but, if they do a trade, they get to keep the holdback on the car they traded.... a wash..

Already let my area dealers know. They said they can't find any in TX,CO,NM,or AZ. Don't know what the Subaru deals will be like in January!
