We're having twins in two weeks and I bought the XT in leather specifically for safety and easy-to-clean reasons. (Performance remained an off-balance sheet item, although my wife enjoys the "vroom" when she accelerates up on-ramps at highway speeds.) Will also be buying a Thule cargo container once overnight trips become a reality.
Of course, buying a car is a two-person decision and you're better off waiting until you both agree on the purchase.

Would you mind sharing how much you paid for the car. Was it a stick or auto. Thanks!

it is a 4 season car (rain, ice, snow, heat). People have been steering me to the Goodyear Aquatread. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

If you are set on an all-season tire, then the Tripletred is a good tire for rain/ice/snow (plus it has a tremendous treadwear warranty of 80,000 miles). The down side is that you loose some fuel economy due to the agressive tread pattern. I estimate about 5-10% decrease.
Although the investment is greater up front, replacing the tires with a summer or dry/wet biased all-season tire and getting an additional set of mounted winter tires would extend the life of both sets and provide for improved winter handling (assuming your son plans to keep the car long enough to use both sets significantly).

nokiantyres.com.... go out to their site and check the "wr' series..they are hard to find but they are the only all-season tire marked "severe service" ....They will probably cost about $600 for 4 but they are EXCELLENT tires...you only get what you pay for....

Whew... with only a 50,000 mile treadwear? With the savings from not buying the second set of rims I suppose one might see significant benefit from them if the car was not kept more than one or two sets of replacement tires!

Twins! Congratulations! Speaking from recent and ongoing experiences be sure to get as much sleep as you can now. Also, get all your errands and repairs done now because you'll soon be house-bound and tired. But it's all good and very magical.
