Hi, I've been thinking all summer about doing the cross border shopping. I've done the import process before with an older car and expect no problems, as you posted. Just pony up the registrar fee and pay the taxes.
I agree with your pricing analysis - we are really being "hosered" on the CDN pricing for a NAFTA vehicle.

My question is: What about Subaru of Canada honouring the US warranty? Have you gone to a Canadian dealership with your new car to confirm this?

Also, just wondering why you didn't wait for the 2007s?

Thanks for the info, Mike

Mike,

I contacted both Subaru of America and Subaru Canada who advised that warranty repairs on an American purchased Subaru would be covered at a Canadian dealership. However, the owner's manual suggests that repairs can only be done in the U.S.

Rather than put this to the test, I bought an extended warranty (Subaru Gold Plus) which explicitly states that repairs can be done on either side of the border. Shop around for this as the prices vary from state-to-state. The Canadian price for the warranty was about 40% higher and once I indicated that the warranty would be for an American purchased vehicle, the Canadian dealerships were unwilling to sell me one...

I'm happy with the deal I brokered on the 2006 and suspect there would have been less room for negotiation on the 2007 model. I timed the purchase for the end of the month (July) in the month before (August) the 2007's came out with this motivated seller gambit in mind.

Just starting to look at 2007 Outback Sedans---Sticker price is $27,020. I know at present there is a $750.00 cash back Until Oct.2,2007. What is a good price to pay for this vechicle??? I will probably wait until the end of Nov to purchase.. Thanks for any help.

Just wonder if anybody has got a good deal on 2006 Outback 2.5i wagon limited recently. I heard there is an incentive of $2750, but I have not seen any deal based on this regard.

Just bought a fresh-off-the-truck `07 Outback LL Bean Edition, loaded with nav, auto-dimming rearview mirror, plus all-weather floor mats (in addition to the Bean mats) and plastic cargo liner for $31,050 (before tax and title).

How does this deal sound?

Haven't picked it up yet (this Thursday) but am looking forward to it and am glad I convinced the wife to go with a Subie (she wanted a RX). I've wanted one for years, as I live in NE Ohio and their prowess in our winters here is well regarded.

Will be lurking more frequently in the future now that I will be a first-time Subaru owner!

how about a MDX by newcarbuyer8

I had considered buying either a MDX or OUTBACK for two months. Yesterday just picked a 2006 MDX touring with DVD for $33519, around $9000 below MSRP. You may get 2006 MDX touring Aropund $32500. New 2007 MDX is coming, thus you may expect good deal on 2006 MDX this month.

Seems a bit big to compare to an Outback.

Plus, I think the new ones are a big improvement, much nicer interior design. $40k, though.

Waiting on 07 LLBean outback by gasr

So we purchased a new '07 ll bean outback (paid 31200 with nav, XM, remote start, floor mats and dog gate). we're really happy with the price we paid.

Problem is we put down 2k on October 1st. Dealer said that his allocation was done for the month and that we would have to wait until early next month. (we're ok with that) Now its the middle of October, and the dealer is not able to get me a VIN number yet. Does anyone know if this is common or not. He said that he had never heard of a VON number (Vehicle order number).

Yesterday one of the other dealers that we had spoken to about the car had called and I mentioned we were waiting on the car, and he said we could be waiting until Dec / Jan since alocations were done every 3 months and said that we should be able to get a VON number from the dealer. We're located north of Boston, MA.

I have no problem waiting until early November, December is totally unacceptable. Has anyone heard of this. Is the dealer I spoke to yesterday taking me for a ride...
thanks
