06 Garnet Red 2.5 XT Limited Manual by zojirushi

We had gone to "motor city" to test drive an '06 Volvo V50 T5 AWD. I had really enjoyed the Volvo (sticker on it was just over $34K), but the salesman I was dealing with wasn't empowered to really deal on the car since his managers were all offsite at some used car event they had going on. So, we strolled across the street to Heuberger VW/Subaru (Colorado Springs) and just decided to see what they had in stock (we have a '97 Outback Limited that has served us well for 4+ years).

Salesman approached and eventually we conveyed we really wanted an Outback with a manual transmission and leather. That always reduces the playing field considerably. They had a used '06 2.5 Limited (not XT) with 22K miles for about $25K. We decided to at least take it for a spin, but were left wanting more (especially after the V50). As he checked his inventory we got a free latte and chai and I noticed an XT Limited in the show room with leather and manual. I brought it to the attention of the salesman and he said he hadn't thought to check the turbos.

Long story short: Sticker on it was just over $32K and we got it for $26000 + dealer fees ($398) + tax (includes the $1500 rebate). Felt pretty good about it since Edmunds FMV is $2K more. We opted for the 0% 2 year loan. Slick car, although I do still feel the Volvo V50 was slightly better all around (when I called to press the Volvo guy he said their lowest was $27,800 - close to tempting, but since they didn't have any finance deals it would have been several thousand more).

2006 Outback 2.5i Wagon by rangaboom

Just purchased (August 30th) a 2006 Outback 2.5i Wagon (automatic) with auto dimming mirror w/compass (really useful) and armrest extension (really useless) for $21,329 plus TT&L and fees. Also, purchased the 6year/60k mile Gold Plus extended warranty for $590 (list price of $850). Total OTD cost was $23,483. This comes out to about $3,600 under invoice for the vehicle and $260 under list for the warranty and includes the $2000 rebate.

Also, took the 0% APR financing for 24 months and the dealer threw in window tinting. Used the "fax attack" buying strategy from fightingchancedotcom. Dealership name is Gillman Subaru North in Houston, Tx.

Sounds like a good price on the Outback, Mike. Isn't it nice to spend your money at dealerships that know how customers want to do business? 90 minutes is great. Our experiences have been similar.

The insurance rates are great on the most current Subies because the safety ratings are soooo high!

Thanks all. The outback is awesome it is some much nicer then the 02 . The interior is nice and the ride is firmer and quietier . Much better fit and finish too ,really did a look over and the interior panels are all tight with no overlap.
Exterior gaps and panels nice tight fit too .
THE BEST PART IS NO ENGINE KNOCK (PISTON SLAP) WHEN START UP .
I bought the car from Martin Subaru in Turnersville NJ

New 2006 Outback 2.5i Wagon by theryeman

My wife and I just bought our first Subaru. After seeing everybody's posts about prices I thought I would share mine. I thought I got a great deal:

Sticker was $25,964 (included Auto Dim Mirror/Compass/Homelink, Security System upgrade, and armrest extension). But they went down to $19,995 after the $2000 rebate. OTD was $21,583 plus a free window tint.

Overall we were extremely pleased at both the car and the dealership (North Park in San Antonio). No one tried to pressure us at all.

Is that an SE model with the twin moonroofs? If so for under $20k that's unbelievable...

Unfortunately, no. I wish it had the twin moonroofs though!

Sorry, I'm thinking Legacy wagon 2.5i SE, not Outback.

It's still surprising to get an Outback under $20k.
