Well, that's done already. I got the car two weeks ago and I am even getting the money back on the difference of what I already paid this month.

Cool. I guess it's the addition of VDC?

"They also said something about better theft protection - not sure how different that is."

That's gotta be the engine immobilizer, which was not on your Outback Sport.

2008 WRX 5 Door w/VDC by jdfording

I just got back from Delray Subaru in south Florida. I received the GTP email Subaru is running the entire month of October. I currently have a 2006 WRX and my GTP is $19,900. I'm thinking about trading it on a silver 2008 5 Door with sport grille, wheel locks and security system shock sensor. This is one of two WRX 5 doors they have on the lot. The other one is black with the premium package. They are asking $25,959 for the silver 5 door. (msrp with the options listed) With my trade in I have about $900 in equity that would go towards the 2008. The salesman offered to sell the car with my trade for $25,186 OTD. This seems a bit high to me for a 72 month finance. I also had them write up a lease with the trade and it seems better. 36 months 10k miles a year. $1k down (using the equity in my 06) $399 a month +tax.

I can use the GTP up until Oct 31 so I have plenty of time to think about it. Should I try and get them to come down or wait till the end of the month? I was thinking around $23,850 +tax, tag, registration. Thoughts?

There's about $1400 difference between MSRP & invoice, so $23,850 might be a touch optimistic this early in the model year, when there are likely no factory-to-dealer incentives. If you're ready to, tell 'em you'll buy that day if they meet you halfway (say $700 above invoice?) otherwise you'll need to shop around, and I bet they'll bite. Hard to say for sure, though. I bet there are plenty of dealers still trying to feel things out as far as demand & pricing for the new WRX, and there's always the chance this dealership will be one of those trying to hold out for top dollar.

There's my two cents, anyway. Good luck!

Man, GTP values are awesome.

I hope our 2002 Legacy qualifies. It has a small dent in the lower door.

current Impreza GTP program by petebk

Hi all,

I've been practically spammed with GTP information for 2 months now.. and finally, I'm interested. I ignored it for some time, but now that I am running out of warranty time, and have made many trips to the service dept already, I am very drawn to the idea of getting hugely overpaid on my trade . And when I got my Outback Sport, I was in a tough place, and really just wanted a car that would run. I didn't have much time to shop, and I didnt want to pay much. Times have changed, and I am very ready for an upgrade - like heated seats and wiper de-icers!

SOA is offering about $16,700 for my 06 OBS SE - pretty amazing considering KBB says its worth under $12k. Since I like free money - and would love a new car, it seems perfect.

Sadly, I don't really see a car I want. I want a sport wagon with some perks - so the WRX 5-door is the closest fit.. but at $28k (premium package), its really hard to swallow the new model's looks.

Ideally I want a Legacy GT. Or heck, even a Legacy 2.5i Limited wagon - but they of course killed the wagon for '08 .

I don't want to pass up on the GTP deal, but I don't want to settle for a car I only feel so-so about. Grrr!

Anyway, that's my dilemma.

What about an Outback XT?

They are GROSSLY overvalueing your trade, so I agree you should take advantage of it.

$16,700 is just CRAZY! Are you sure?

Get an 08 Outback Sport.

Or an 08 Forester w/Premium package.

How 'bout Forester XT Limited? Subtracting $500 rebate from invoice gets you about $26,300 (for manual tranny), and I bet you could get about $1000 off of that. Probably end up about $2500-$3000 less than WRX Premium & have loads more utility while being essentially as quick. Plus you'd get leather & the huge Forester moonroof, neither of which are even available on a WRX Premium.
