The dealer's gotta feed his kids. Holdback is, what, 2%? That's not enough to cover their costs, I think. They'll probably eat a small loss and try to make it up on service or something. Go for it, deal sounds great. -juice

| got dealer down to 22,400 after rebates. Could not pull trigger due to lack of actual vehicle on the lot. Mistake or not? Could not sign deal for something I can't kick the tires on ya know... | |

Replying to: anusak (Mar 30, 2005 4:06 am) when I see the phoney credit application being pushed in front of me and know the paint sealer / gap insurance / seat sealer coming on, I simply tell them that if they want a good grade on the customer service report then skip all the bullcrap and get me the keys as soon as possible. it works! |

Uh uh... we fillled one out even though we did an "either or" contract. Why do they have us fill it out? Is it some kind of scam? Our $22,295 beauty is in the driveway. And I looooove it. It even came with a subwoofer which I wasn't aware of. I want to go and sleep in the driveway under the moonroof, LOL. One other issue--- with the LL Bean ---you're supposed to get a "security system" . No such thing on our car. Only keyless entry. Do they consider that to be a "security system" ? Help!

dealers claim that if your funds don't clear they will use your credit and issue a loan as a back up. It's semi legit when you consider people pass bad checks all the time. I think a large part of it is to get you to invest time and effort to help avoid having you walk. Some might call it "baking" a customer. Many dealers have a strategy of just wearing you down to where you don't want to start the process all over again. They'll walk away from the sales cubicle and leave you there till you emotionally buy the car. I did advertising for car dealers for a couple years and saw this from the other side of the one way mirrors in the dealer office and I don't think much has changed over the past 20 years. It's done at MBZ to Honda - they all do it.

went ahead and closed the deal (which also included a VCP card which gives 6 free oil changes and a 10% discount off parts? or something--- although it does have a warranty the 6 free oil changes isn't bad) 2005 XT Premium--$24,642 (before taxes--includes $1750 rebate) Includes: Security System Auto Dimming Mirror/Compass Cargo Tray Rear Bumber Cover |

| We do have an alarm---the salesman was wrong. All in all great buying experience at Diablo Subaru of Walnut Creek. I was surprised at how straight they were. They only tried to sell the extended warranty and wax seal process (don't know what it's called.) Thanks to the consumer reports auto pricing service I knew what the dealer holdback was and was able to gauge how low the dealer was willing to go. The process was fairly painless and I am in loooove with my new XS LL Bean edition. | |
