Under $20k sounds good. I don't usually include tax in the price paid, because that goes to the state, not the manufacturer.

Not bad for auto, AWD, ABS, quadruple 5 stars, IIHS Best Pick frontal, Good rated for side impacts by IIHS, etc.

I plan to by a 05 Forester X with standard configuration (or as few add-on accessories as possible). One dealer gave me a quote of $19399 after rebate but excluding tax and title fees. Is this price good? By the way, I am in southern california area. Thanks.

What does Edmunds list as the True Market Value (TMV) for an 05 X in your zip code? You may be able to beat it but the TMV should let you know if you're in the right ballpark.

2005 Forester X $18999.

Upon (1) calling; (2) being switched to three different folks: the used car(?) manager indicated
"Plat. Silver; 5-speed....better get here tonite; it'll be gone by morning..........."

That's a dandy price; same model...a used '04 is circa $22+ per KBB dealer retail...........best,ez

Looking at Xs by kaye3

I have seen the silver, green, blue, and champagne Foresters (with textured gray bottom panel) but not the gray. I should think the gray would appeal to me most - have any of you seen this color? Is it attractive... or dingy?

I was quoted $19,800 (including rebate) in the S.F. Bay Area for a manual "X" with 3 small options... does not seem low to me but fits the Edmunds TMV suggestion. Any opinions?

What dealer in Southern Caif are you referring too? This sounds like a pretty good price. I too am interested in the 05 Forrester X with auto.

Titanium Silver, and Champagne Opal seem actually closer in variable sunlight than you'd think. All seem to complement the Forester's "style"....

Of course I have color difficiency issues.......ez

Just make sure to add freight if it's not included, plus any fees the dealers charge.

If that includes freight, the price sounds good to me.

First time buyer in NY by aka_cars

First time we are buying a car and have decided on the 2005 Forester 2.5 XS AT with Moonroof. Does anyone have suggestions about dealers in or around Westchester County, NY. Saw a lot of references to Fitzmall in the posts here and really appreciate the fixed prices. Will it be a problem if I can't drive there each time for service -- do dealer service centers behave differently if the car isn't bough there?
Thanks for your help.

Questions & confusion by aka_cars

Sorry to post so soon again, but this process is far more difficult and confusing than I thought it would be. But we went to some dealers this past weekend. The first one didn't have the color & options we wanted, but wanted us to place a buying order before he would locate it from other dealers. The catch was that we would have to pay for any other options that were on the car with the option to reject it and have it factory ordered ( and receive it in late December). At another dealer, he claimed that they had the car but in a port in Boston and he would have it within 2-3 days if we committed. Is this a usual practice? At the second dealer, he actually quoted a price higher than the price that can be obtained from their website (which we didn't know at that time). Should I go back to the second dealer and ask him for the web price? Just my first time, but I do believe car-buying would be a much better experience with fixed prices -- even if it means a couple hundred dollare more (since honest dealers might be too much to hope for).
