Hello, Tanager here:

What exactly is Fitzmall? I hear it mentioned a lot. I am going to look again this weekend at a couple of Foresters. Has anyone heard anything about any November deals Subaru might be offering? I know the 1.9% financing ends this weekend. Now that I am seriously considering the XS over the X, I have to start all over again with the hunt for the best price. I would like the moonroof also. Any ideas on what a good out-the-door price might be? I know this is tough question to answer. Thanks!

Check out fitzmall.com. They're a no-haggle dealer with 2 Subaru locations in the Mid Atlantic.

I finally purchased my first Subie this weekend. I went back to the dealership where they offer me $19,900 (after $1,200 rebate) for a 2005 Forester X with auto trans, security upgrade and two other small options. In addition, I also add window etching ($179+tax). The other charges added are sales tax (N.J.), documentary fee ($135), new tire tax ($7.5) and a registration fee ($27.50). The total is $ 21,525.74. I hope I got myself a good bargain.

I almost forgot, I also get free lifetime oil change. It is not a big free offer but every little bit helps.

Congrats!

I am curious about the registration fee. I just bought in NJ and they now have a new 4 year registration on new cars. The total is over $200 . Even if you were going by the old registration it was over $40 for a year.

The lifetime oil change seems like a big thing to me. Sounds like a great deal.

Trust me its a big deal we purchased a new Toyota 4runner back in 1990 and received a lifetime oil change that we used until we sold it with over 200,000 miles on it in 2003. It adds up not to forget the bonding that you have with the dealer that should get you some good treatment. Good luck and enjoy... Matt

Oops, was out of town and just saw this post but if you didn't end up buying at Fitzmall, you can get a comparable price from Subaru of Gwinnett.

I've enjoyed reading all the informative advice and new car buying stories from everyone. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and I am looking to buy a 05 Forester XS w/auto trans and Moonroof. The best price I received so far is $23,819 after rebate, but before tax, lic, doc. I'd appreciate hearing from others if this is a good price, or if I could work on getting a lower price. Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

Baydrive,

You are correct on the new 4 year registration fee which is over $200. In fact, the dealership wanted to charge me for $342 for the 4 year new registration. I told them I would keep my current plate number and registration, so he charged $ 27.50 for the transaction and I just have to renew the registration myself when it is due.
