new 05 subie forester X auto by mazdax605

Thanks to all who replied to my questions. We did indeed go for the 36 month lease i spoke of before on a brand new 05 forester X in Cayenne Red pearl. It is the automatic(not my choice),and has the armrest extender, and rear rubber mat thingy. We got what I and the Car_Man on the lease forum thinks is a good deal at $340 a month with all MA taxes included and gap insurance. My wife loves the car so far(we got the car last night),but I think that subaru cheaped out on the fabric on the seats(they are rough),and for some reason the roof racks whistle(at least thats where I think the noise is coming from).Any suggestions?Plus the glove box lock is really a pain in the rump. You need to talk dirty to it to get the thing to lock.I even showed this to the sales person, and the service guy,and they figured out how to do it but we cannot.I hope this car is as reliable as our Mazda Protege that we traded in.What do you guys think? Will it be reliable?

Oh yeah the dealer has a program where if you get the car serviced with them at their set intervals(3750 miles between oil changes-severe duty schedule)then you will qualify for their tires for life program, loaner car,and something else.Is it worth paying for these services to get these so called "freebies" when the manual says 3000 for the 1st then 7500 there after? Thanks again

Well congratulations on your new Forester! I can't say I've ever locked my glove box but I can't imagine why it would be difficult to do unless something is binding. All things being equal, a Subaru should actually be slightly more reliable than a Mazda. Of course there are always exceptions. What's the advantage of a "tires for life" program with a leased vehicle that you'll quiet possibly return before ever needing tires?

Fitzmall price by gotb

I agree Fitzmall has good prices but you can find cheaper price. For instance, Herb Gordon Nissan in Silver Spring, MD sells $500-$1000 cheaper than Fitzmall internet price. Check out their internet department. Herb Gordon Nissan's internet price includes freight and you only need to add tax, tag and $99 doc fee like Fitzmall does(doc fee used to be $25 when I bought my car). I bought my Sentra from Herb Gordon Nissan about $1000 cheaper than Fitzmall in June, 2003.

However, I'm looking for a 2004 or 2005 Subaru Forester X and I can't find any dealer that has a better quote than Fitzmall.

Definitely shop around. The idea of the no-haggle strategy is not the lowest possible price, it's just a consitently fair price without the hassle.

It won't always be the lowest, but some times it will.

Bought 2005 Forester X A/T with about $500 options for $19,800 by gotb

My car had bunch of options like carpet net/tray, tail tip, mud guard, arm rest ext, etc. $19,800 including freight and out the door price was $20500 for me... I live in VA and bought my car from a MD dealer. I noticed west cost was more expensive than east coast when I bought my sentra too...

Thanks to all who have posted messages here... I read many before deciding to make a deal at my favorite dealership--Charlie's Motor Mall (in Augusta, Maine). This is our fourth car from Charlie's (3rd Subaru) and just LOVE the buying experience with them.

Bottom Line:
Red 2004 Forester XT, Auto Transmission, w/premium package (leather, moonroof)
MSRP $28,240, minus $4,000 (rebate and end of year clearance special), minus the $2400 over bluebook we got for trade-in: $21,840

True, pickings were SLIM for 04's on the lot, but we went in feeling really flexible about color and options and happened to find one we really liked. I always car shop in late September--great bargains!

BTW, hubby has a 2003 Baja w/leather & moon and we've had absolutely no problems with it. Rides like a dream (actually better than Forester--less stiff), great for cargo, roomy. Engine doesn't have quite the punch of the Forester turbo, but very zippy nonetheless.

I bought mine from Fitzgerald auto mall in Gaithersburg. There was another one(silver) for $19,800 but it had no options installed. I just checked their website and it's gone too...
