My understanding is that the prices quoted includes installation and the prices on the Subaru site do not. I am not sure what the time and labor costs are for each item so it makes it very tricky to judge. Alas, that deal fell through but I am fine with that... my plan B (other dealership) is wonderful.

You are correct about the prices. I'm assuming then that this was going to be a vehicle on the lot to which the accessories were going to be added. I suppose that would account for the inflated prices. When I selected everything I wanted they said it would be easier to place an order and have it shipped from Japan, so I had to wait about 6 weeks or so.

But this was last year when they were having trouble keeping them on the lot. The day I went they only had 3, 1 was a base model, 1 had a 'sold' sign on it and the one I drove didn't have the extras I wanted and was not a color I like.

If you're going with a vehicle off the lot and looking for a site to help in getting a deal on your extras, I recommend checking out SubaruPartsMall

Hmmm - we could easily wait 6 weeks. So were some options installed in Japan and others by the dealer, or were they ALL installed by Japan?

We plan to get things like cargo nets online (so thanks for the link!) but the auto-start, splash guards, and hood protector are all things we want done by Subaru (either Japan or dealer). It never occurred to me that ALL of it could be pre-ordered from Japan. Thanks again!

Great tip on ordering the car, kaiserchieffan. I spoke with the dealer and they will be ordering it from Subaru with all the options we want with no extra installation costs! THANK YOU!

We did the same and were able to pick and choose exactly the options, accessories, even color. Very nice.

We look to do the same thing, but I am not sure how flexible colors are. I asked the dealer if we could get a "special combo" on the color/interior, since it was not even built yet. I would think such a combo could be done easily enough, but then again I don't know how the factory is set up. I would like to get Camellia Red with a black interior; seems very goofball to me that they mixed up their color combos so much since last year and this year most everything comes with platinum interior only. If not, my wife wants the parika red. I haven't quite warmed up to it yet, but she loves it.

I was quoted a price of (essentially) invoice: $22,550 for 2010 Forester X Premium w/ AWP. But, I had to order the car factory-direct. The dealer was not allowed to sell an on-the-lot car for much under MSRP. Patience pays....

Beware - I saw the Paprika Red in person and it looks VERY orange. You may or may not like it, but it's not hardly a shade of red. They should have called it Burnt Orange or something.

Platinum is a bad name for the interior color, too. It's really just like shade of gray. Platinum might have you think of metallic shades, so it's a bizarre choice for fabric and leather colors.

Price sounds good, those were $22.8k when I was shopping.

Do you have a Chase Subaru card? I've earned $500 in Subaru Bucks each year for the past several years. I kick myself for not getting one sooner. We used $1600 off the price of the car and already have another $500 saved up if anything ever breaks, though I may use them for the 30k/60k services.

I know.... I think it looks orange too!!! But, a soft orange... more of a copper color (like the color Ford uses on its Edge). That was actually the color of the one I test-drove last week (put my post in the wrong thread - 2009 Forester rather than 2010, but noticed it too late to correct), and I did not mind it, but it was just not as rich as the camellia red. They hit it spot on with that color. I also really like the sage green. My wife, though, LOVES the Paprika! I don't get it; the saleslady with whom I was working at my local dealership loves it too. *sigh*

The platinum interior is okay, but it is just too light to wear well for our use. With a 2 and a 5-year old, we are in for it regardless, but we are going to keep this car a long, long while. We are not buying it for resale (like the '08 Outback) and have no unplanned pregnancies looming..... Heck, even if we do have an unplanned pregnancy, we'd keep it anyway.

Oh, and yes, I do have the Chase card. I actually just picked up a second one after talking with occking about his multi-card portfolio. I have $700 bucks right now, with many more on the way soon (but after we finalize the deal, most likely), so I will use those for the necessary accessories (like trailer hitch, cargo tray, blah blah).

Including my '98 Caravan, total price on the car should be about $17,350 unless we opt for additional stuff on the car.

Do you love your all weather mats? by evadoo

All of our decisions are made on our 2010 Forester 2.5X Limited... but one. Do we get Subaru all weather mats or after-market mats? I have heard conflicting reports on both choices. What mats do you have and do you love them? And are you located where it snows? Thanks!
