Replying to: occking (Mar 05, 2009 8:13 pm) I have found that the octane available will make a difference. Normally in my area regular is 85. It was 87 in Arizona and I notice the inproved gas mileage. Around town/hiway mixed for me is about 28mpg. In winter, we have ethanol mixed into our gas, so the mileage does down. I'm averaging somewhere between 24 and 27mpg with the ethanol mix gas which is mandatory in my area. I have had none of the rattles/etc mentioned except for when I put sunglasses in the sunglass holder...though I still have sunglasses in the holder, it doesn't make that noise now. The only other issue was dirt/dust attaching to the wheels and making the car shake. It is normally very dry where I live. It was enough to unbalance the wheels. But, it certainly doesn't happen every time I drive on a dirt road. It has happened about 4 times, not sure of a why, or whether it will occur again. The wheels had to be cleaned, especially on the inside, to get the buildup off. Definitely scratches interior excessively easily. Perhaps get a dark interior if this would bother you, as you wouldn't notice is as much, I'm thinking. Definitely something to be aware of before you buy...but I still like the car, just wish they hadn't picked this type of material.

Replying to: sgloon (Mar 06, 2009 6:40 pm) In addition to good value for trade, the price of 26000 seems very good for a loaded vehicle with a list of just about 29500, plus they will add bluetooth (around $200 cost) plus make "pre wired" radio ready to accept XM (I was quoted $400 to $500 elsewhere for that) all for $26,000 seems well below invoice. I did have issues with 05 Outback in winter if snow or ice would either build up in wheels, wheel wells or treads that I would get a lot of vibration at highway speeds. Seems like that problem has not been resolved. How many miles on your vehicle? Are your mpg calculations based on actual, or via computer?

I have been on previously, having owned 05 Outback then 06 Tribeca. Left Subaru for one year tried, and had my fun with Nissan Altima Hybrid, now back with Subaru. Got what I thought was excellent deal... 2.5x ltd Forester, Sage Green, pretty well loaded with Nav, Bluetooth, set up for XM (vehicle is prewired but supposedly still cost $400 additional to have it installed) the rubber cargo cover, "winter package" etc. total list approx $29,000 for $26,000, plus $300 doc fee, registration & taxes. I am sure this price far below list for this vehicle with the options. I will be a frequent poster to this board and one thing you can be sure of -- I do a lot of driving and keep very accurate records of mpg. Not what the computer says, which is always inflated, but actual consumption based on miles drive divided by gas consumed. Too many people on these boards claim high (or low) mpg based on what the computer says driving on the highway for 50 miles, or after driving just a few hundred miles. I am optomistic that I will get at least a little over the 20 - 26 (some stickers say 20 - 27, I don't know why there is a difference) and I will post this information. I decided on the Sage Green as I have had plenty of silver and white cars, my wife has black in the driveway (too high maintenance) also had the gold, & some of the other colors required the black interior and I wanted the grey. Too bad winter almost over here (near Providence, RI) I may not get to see how this vehicle does in the snow (60 degrees now!)

Replying to: occking (Mar 07, 2009 5:17 am) BTW, I have an MT as far as gas goes, they typically get 2mpg better than AT. I did both hand calcs and read the dash mpg. It has never been too far off that I noticed. I have about 8300 miles. And I had thought the mileage was going down as it was getting older until I realized about the gas difference. It has also started to pick up with some warmer weather (70) that we have been having here in the middle of winter., And I do drive more hiway than city, by a fair bit. Overall mpg before ethanol was 29.5mpg. Oh, and I am a fairly conservative driver as well. Although, I was going 75 on the hiway in AZ cuz it was just so far to drive. Normally I'm between 65 & 70 on the hiway around home. I haven't had a problem with the low seat. I'm always the driver. I have had a couple of very small women in the front seat beside me...but I may not notice the difference as much as I'm 5'6" and a woman as well, but with a longer torso. I only really noticed once cuz it was noted here and once I had a very sort torsoed person in the passenger seat. That was what made me note what the others were talking about. Good luck with your purchase. Be aware that Subaru currently has a 2.9% no money down, up to 63 month financing program. At least for the month of March. Good deal.

Replying to: sgloon (Mar 07, 2009 11:59 am) So, getting back $17,500 means my cost to use the vehicle for one year was around $9500 for the 34k miles I put on it. Major maintenance ($200 and $400) was paid for by Subaru Bucks (same dealer has Subaru Dealership and they allowed me to use them. Plus, I am using another $1200 in Subaru Bucks on the new purchase & I will continue to earn enough this year to be able to pay for major maintenance on the vehicle. I had purchased a 100k 5 year extended warranty for Nissan for $1400 and I expect I will get back around $900. Not sure if I will get another one for this vehicle. Did you get one?? Overall was very pleased to get the vehicle I wanted for $26,000 with the list approaching $30,000. My purchase price has to be at least $1000 less than invoice.

Replying to: occking (Mar 07, 2009 10:15 am) We have a Limited model also, you'll love the heated, perforated leather seats. We had one rattle but traced it to some empty CD cases in the passenger door pocket. It could be lined to prevent that, but at least it wasn't the vehicle itself rattling. I wedged some papers next to the CD cases and it's quiet. We're quite happy with ours so far, no regrets at all. We also used Subaru Bucks, I think $1600 or so, I forget exactly. I have another $300 saved up, I guess I could pay for the 30k and 60k service and get those for free as well.

Replying to: ateixeira (Mar 10, 2009 7:31 am) I will miss my Altima Hybrid as with the 20 gallon tank could easily go well over 600 miles (once 690) Hoping with this vehicle to average 26 or so, with 17 gallon tank if I run it almost dry expect around 425 miles. Will report back tomorrow. Best thing so far.... The bluetooth works much better on this car than it did in the Altima. I could hear fine both vehicles, but the mike on the Nissan must have been up near the rear view mirror & picked up too much background noise, mike on this mounded right on top of steering wheel. I believe I have earned more Subaru bucks than just about anyone out there. Since I purchased 05 Outback in Dec 04, I have earned over $6000 in Subaru bucks. This is a true story. I travel for work and although get many expenses reimbursed, use the Subaru cards for most other purchases (except for drug stores, supermarkets and gas stations where there are plenty of cards that pay 5%). I have three cards that I rotate during the year and after I max out one card go to another. In fact, in purchasing this car today, gave $1000 deposit on my card, then paid for extended warranty ($1295) with it. That;s $2300 so already earned $69 for the 3% back. I used 12 Subaru bucks for the purchase today so you can see I am well on my way to getting more. I figure major services for this vehicle will be around $600 - $700 for the year (I drive around 30 - 35k per year so one minor service at 15,000 and a major one at 30,000) I will easily earn enough "bucks" to pay for these services when they are due. This way I will have dealer provide all maintenance, thus "tires for life" and double the powertrain warranty. Big deal if I pay a few more dollars for the oil changes.
