Replying to: slazenger (Oct 15, 2008 5:54 am) I was shocked when a NJ dealer emailed me with this first offer of $25,000 for a sage green 2.5X Limited PZEV with factory-installed options: AUTO DIM MIRROR/COMPASS W/HOMELINK BODY SIDE MOLDING KIT SPLASH GUARD KIT Now, I actually only wanted remote starter, all weather mats, and rear bumper cover, so he quoted me the retail price of those, not invoice. I will ask if I can have those options at invoice, but do you think I'm pushing my luck if I do a little haggling? Part of me feels weird taking his first offer, and part of me feels guilty since I know this is a very good deal already, as he basically quoted me $200 below invoice without even considering the factory-installed options. Advice? Thanks! Connie

I'm looking at a 2008 Forester X, automatic, with around 9,000 miles. No extra bells and whistles. The car looks and drives like it's in great condition. It's a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle, and the dealership says it was their loaner car. The price is $18,000 (down from $19,995, which is what the dealership was asking for, per the sticker). Should I be concerned about it having been a loaner car, even if it's Certified Pre-Owned? Thanks in advance for your help. I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to buying a used car. |

Replying to: catch822 (Oct 31, 2008 9:58 am) That being said, and perhaps I'm biased as a 2009 Forester owner, but if you can afford it I would look at a 2009. Sticker price on a 2.5X Auto w/o extras is $21,995 and invoice is $20,000. Potentially $2000 more than you planned but w/o 9,000 miles that you didn't put on. At least that's my 2 cents. |
