Sad that dealers still pad pricing with surprises like that.

What if we told them we had a "$389 customer fee" that they had to pay to earn our business after we shook on the deal?

Buying 2-3 months before delivery by mleo

I have a lease that will end in NOV but I am shopping now so I don't have to rush on a making the right deal. I want to have enough time to negotiate and get multiple offers so I don't go in needing a car tomorrow.

A few questions -

How long is it taking to get a new Forester? I would like to order the exact color/options I want.

Can I go to a dealer now and make a good deal knowing that I won't be finalizing my deal until Nov.? Could I make a deal, go in and order/lock in, put down a deposit and wait?

will going in at the end of the month still be an advantage with the way I want to go about it, or does it not matter?

Thanks!

My order took 5 or 6 weeks, but now people are being told it's more like 10 or 12.

Here was the cool part, though - my dealer said it any incentives arrived before delivery, then I would get them.

That didn't happen for me, but for you, that's months away, and while unlikely, it would be nice...

Doherty -- We had a great experience dealing with Heuberger. Just got my 09 Forester XPremium Monday. Waited just over a week to get it after purchasing for internet price, plus delivery ($800), plus tax. And we live in Florida! Salesman was up front and very trustworthy. We're very happy with the car and with the buying experience.
I tried 3 local dealers before making this purchase (was a little nervous about buying a car sight unseen), but none had the color or options we wanted and none could match Heuberger's price. OTD was 22,883.46.

Congrats! I just picked up my XT at Heuberger today and I also had a great experience. The car was ready to go, no surprises on price (just the usual hard sell on extended warrenties) and the salesman even helped me transfer the baby seat from my old car. Price before tax was 24.3K (for the non-leather XT with the cargo tray, luggage cover package) which at least 6 dealers refused to even match. Best of all, I drove home to Golden in a downpour and was loving the AWD. I would definitely recommend Heuberger.

Buying New Forester by bobfox3

Greetings from southern Oregon where we don't have any sales tax.
Our local dealer insisted we couldn't buy an '09 forester for less than invoice plus $100 so we started with internet shopping at cities north of us. we've currently got an offer from Carr Auto near Portland to sell us a 2.5x premium pzev automatic w/ awp, fog lights, premium sound pkg 1 (subwoofer, tweeter, amplifier), aw floor mats, cargo tray and tail pipe covers for $23,200 incl. dest. charges - the only add on should be dmv fees. that should be about $790 below invoice. i'm going to our local dealer monday with a copy of the price offer and see if they'll match or beat it. just matching it would be fine since i'd rather order it locally. i'll post information as it happens. if anyone on the west coast wants information on dealerships and prices, i'd be happy to help them out. this forum has already helped me a ton by knowing what others were paying for their new car and i thank everyone for posting their experiences.

Jason, sorry I don't have that information. In July Heuberger's advertised online sales price for the 2.5X Premium with MT and no options (which is what we purchased) was 20,741. This was what they charged us, plus tax and delivery. I believe their sales price was well under invoice.
