I have a new question regarding buying a new car from other state. Is there any additional surcharges from your local DMV? I live in NY, but want to buy a car from NJ (since they gave me the best offer). Now, my NY dealer told me that there is an additional $500 charge to buy from NJ and to get NY license, but when I checked with my NJ dealer, they said the only other fee is $90 document fee. I am not sure who to believe. Anybody has the experience of buying car from other states? Thank you very much!

I think this is one of the few situations where a $90 doc fee is warranted -- I believe NJ dealers probably aren't connected to the computerized NY registration/title system and have to pay a real, live human being to run stuff back and forth. The curiosity is killing me, though -- would you mind telling us the name of the dealer who's claiming there's a $500 surcharge on an out-of-state vehicle? |

Please do not post names of salespeople, telephone numbers, email addresses or other contact information." I hope that you'll share the name, and I hope that you called them out for their disgraceful behavior! |
