Where are you located? $19674 for 2007 2.5X is slightly high. Dealers on east cost are selling the exact same vehicle for $18995. All the accessories that you have listed on 2006 2.5X will cost about $350. So, you are approximately getting $800(4%) discount on 2006MY. IMO it is definitely not worth going for 2006 to save $800. I would haggle down price on 2007 and buy all the accessories online and install it myself.

I live in Missouri. Those the initial quotes. I was wondering how much lower they might be willing to go. I've never negotiated for a new car (and it's a Subaru). I really don't care about the add-ons, they are of little value to me personally. It will come down to the price. But is the 2007 worth $800 more or $1000 or $1500? I don't know.

Thanks for you imput.

You must consider the depreciation of all cars. Yes, a 2007, as opposed to a 2006, will be worth more, 3-5-7 years down the line, when you trade it in, or sell it. Will the extra value that a 2007 will bring you down the road, be equal to the amount you pay now for it? No. But it will be close. All things considered, this late in the model year (2008's come out next June) I would personally buy the 2007.

The Preimum Package, which includes the following, does increase the value, overall, as it includes items shown to be wanted by many car buyers. And it makes it nicer for you. :

  • Premium Package:
Panoramic power sliding-glass moonroof with auto-open/close feature
8-way power adjustable driver's seat with manually adjustable lumbar support
    Dual-stage heated front seats
    Automatic climate control system
    SIRIUS™ satellite radio capability
    120-watt 4-speaker audio system with 6-disc in-dash CD changer and MP3/WMA player
Auxiliary audio jack for portable media players
Perforated leather-wrapped 3-spoke steering wheel, shifter handle and parking-brake handle
    4-wheel disc, ventilated front brakes
    Viscous-type limited-slip rear differential
    16-inch 8-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels
Heated larger body-color side mirrors with integrated turn signals
    Windshield wipers de-icer
    Body-color painted door handles

  •
It will run you about $1500-$2000 over the base cost (depending on the dealer and incentives), and at the very least, will fetch you that much more when selling/trading it.

Look for some great deals in the next month, as the Christmas Holiday deals roll out!

    Thanks for the advice.
Generally speaking, are we gonna find better deals in Nov, Dec or January? I really want to know this since I need a new car within 3 months. Thanks.

Christmas wheeling and dealing typically kicks off Thanksgiving. Many dealers focus on the two weeks immediately before Christmas and the two after, wanting to get that Christmas cash. Watch the newspaper ads, etc.

Around my area, they are already making deals, hedging their bets about the slowdown in auto sales. I think with gasoline down, people are going to be spending more this season.

The rule of thumb (many people use) for depreciation is approximately 10% per year. Without haggling you are at 4% ($800). Give it a serious thought only if you can get at least $1750 off compared to 2007.

10% per year, but add 10% the minute you drive off the lot.

If a vehicle can retain 50% of its original value after 4 years, that's actually better than average by far.

    Looking to buy a 2007 Forester X by 2007forester

Hey all, I've been reading some of these postings, and I get the feeling there are some real pros out there. I live in MA, and I'm about to buy a Forester--what do you think a fair price would be for a 2007 Forester X- automatic (standard options)? I get so confused about invoice price, hold-back, fees and other junk and everything else. Someone help me please!

They start around $19k street price for MT5, $20k for an automatic.

You might even do a tad better.
