As far as negotiating, it's kinda apples and oranges as we were going to trade in a Jeep Cherokee. Ultimately we left when we realized how badly were going to get hosed on the trade in, and sales guy #2 was rude to my wife anyway. The fleet guy later quoted us $22,985 for the X / P.P. / A.T. with no trade in. I'm just curious what my out the door price might have been had I kept going down that road. -4ist |

Try to call around dealership in 50-100 miles or even bigger radius, or wait until the end of Nov or December, which may provide you more negotiation room. Some dealership may not like to do business with you without a fortune on the vehicle, while others would like to sell you a car with lower margin of profit. So it will depends. Also, do not give up easily what you believe, if you know what you look for. If one try does not reach your goal, you could try another or third time. Also try to avoid the same mistake from previous ones in the next round negotiation.

That made quite a difference for me in my final decision about trade in value and the final financing amount as I kept wondering where the catch was in the deal. It was almost like money down.

I think the trade-in value will only be applied to the overall price after the tax, not before, same as the $500 customer cash. In other words, our trade-in will not bring in any tax benefit to us, although when we bought it, we did pay tax on the car. Additionally, dealership processing fee and/or additional options to the car, such as accessories and extended warranty, will be taxed as well. |

Unfortunately, in Kansas there is little industry so the govt. has to get it from the citizen's hides. The only good thing I have ever seen re: KS taxes is that "difference" tax vs. total price.
