Hi, I got mine from Figgs Subaru in Topeka Kansas. That's where I got my last one in Feb 05. This is the shortest time for owning a Suby but the deal was too good to refuse. I could have gotten a plain X and essentially have come out within a thousand bucks of being even from my old one on that, but that was because I got a killer deal on the first one is my take and because of the tax thing here where you only pay on the value difference instead of the total price. That was worth almost a thousand for me since my old Forester was only 8K something different in value.

I did have to get white which is one of my least favorite colors, but I guess I will just have to suffer(grins). Nothing is selling out here. The rumor is that one of the dealerships within a hundred miles of here might even go out of business.

The KC dealership(s) don't deal much but for example, the Lawrence KS dealer still has a few 06's in automatics. I wanted a stick and this was about it, but there are a couple of 06's in Lawrence that look really good if you want an automatic. You can check stocks out from the Subaru.com website looking under the dealers section.

Regarding the 500 rebate, I gave mine back for a 5.9% rate from Chase. There are also Subaru Loyalty discounts in some regions right now for 500 bucks through tomorrow I guess. Mine came out in the last week of the month. There will probably be another incentive next month and it could be for more.

The Edmunds site here has an area that will tell you whether it is best to take the rebate or the financing in the pricing area.

Heck, it might be worth the drive based upon some other prices I have seen.

Kavoom,

Is it an automatic transmission of your newly-bought one or manual transmission?

Thank you for your inputs.

Just curious how much extra I'd hafta pay after negotiating a price for a forester X/P.P in California. Can anybody share recent experiences with this?
Thanks,

Depends on whether you'd look for AT or Manual Trans.

For Manual, check the previous post, which is around $21K+tag+tax, etc.

For AT, add something around $727 (invoice difference between AT and MT).

Please let us know what you have negotiated for finally.

forrest39 is looking for out-the-door price vs. negotiated price... basically asking what taxes & fees to expect in CA.

In my state (WA) it usually ends up adding around 10%. Anyone know what to expect in CA?

Yes. 7.75% State Sales Tax on the total, and a huge DMV fee.

Thanks Jeff,
Yes that's my question. How much can I expect for tax / license / doc fee's. As far as negotiating, it's kinda apples and oranges as we were going to trade in a Jeep Cherokee. Ultimately we left when we realized how badly were going to get hosed on the trade in, and sales guy #2 was rude to my wife anyway. The fleet guy later quoted us $22,985 for the X / P.P. / A.T. with no trade in. I'm just curious what my out the door price might have been had I kept going down that road.

If you don't want to sell the Jeep youself, at least take it to a Jeep dealer to sell.

Alternatively, you could consider selling it on craigslist.org to local or regional people, if your price is decent and you prepare well, for instance, show your series of maintenance record or clean up interiors.

Is your price shown above OTD or plus title+tax etc? Try to call around dealership in 50-100 miles or even bigger radius, or wait until the end of Nov or December, which may provide you more negotiation room.

Some dealership may not like to do business with you without a fortune on the vehicle, while others would like to sell you a car with lower margin of profit. So it will depends.

Also, do not give up easily what you believe, if you know what you look for. If one try does not reach your goal, you could try another or third time. Also try to avoid the same mistake from previous ones in the next round negotiation.
