I think I found a deal but something is amiss, please give opinion/advice: An add with a local dealership online in nashville tn is advertising an 06 subaru forrester X model for 17875, it has 4500 miles on it. It is listed as an X model online but when you open up the "standard features" list it lists out the features for the Premium package. I did go to the dealership and this car was the X not the Prem. and they were asking 18995 on the lot....also, online they have a silver model selling on the same page that is listed as an X type but under the standard features it lists out the Prem package. Is this false advertising? Is this something I should take as the dealer being a "hoodwinker"? It feels smarmy...help! And of course, I want the Prem Pkg!...I haven't asked dealer about the descrepency yet...

You should be asking the dealer. They must sell it exactly as advertised, under the law, or produce documentation from the newspaper's advertising department that they made a mistake. If it is their mistake, they eat it. If they refuse, file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and whatever State agencies have purview there.
But certainly you should be first speaking to the Sales Manager about it....

Thanks so much! I want to get the best deal I can but I think they just made a mistake but I guess I want to be sure it wasn't intentional just to get me to stop by. That I would not be happy about being misled just to get me on the lot and I would therefore go to another dealer. I'll definately speak with the Sales Manager about it. The Sales person I spoke with that day was top notch, no pressure so...we'll see! I'm just glad I found this forum because there is so much great info! Thanks, again!

Make sure you go back several pages in this forum, maybe for about a month, and read over what others have been paying....

Eeeexxxaaaactly! That's why when I saw the price in the add and all the options, I just knew something was not right! Everyone else is paying about $23 or $24 out the door and in this area, it's about the same. I'll go back further (in this posting) so I can get a good idea about what to expect. I've already done the pricing on edmunds and nada. I'm just soooo looking forward to Wednesday (the day I'm buying). I've never had a new car! (Big family with a lot of hand-me-down vehicles that I have been thankful for!) Yippee! And my whole family is a Honda family so I'm making big waves too! Ha! Thank you so much!

Another idea is to not be afraid of driving an hour or two outside your home area. Many have saved $1,000, $2,000 or more doing that, so not a bad pay-day for a couple of hours invested. Check the inventory and prices online Edmunds.com, make the calls, and if you get a good price, make the drive.

Guess what? I spoke with the Internet Sales Manager of the dealership in Nashville and it sounded ripe to me! Not only did he say that the internet info was obviously wrong (listing the X as a Premium) but also the price! He said the X model that was listed online (without the Premium package like it says online) is actually going for $18985!! He didn't even make any attempts at appologizing for the misinformation online. He asked me if I would come down and look at it and I told him no and why. I mean even if it is a good price for the car--the demeanor blows it for me. The car has been listed on-line like that for over 45 days too. Totally bogus if you ask me! So, that's ok. I'm not going to fight about it, I'll just go somewhere else.
