I would stay away from the qx56. I have a 2004 and the problems have been numerous.
The latest brake fix is being advertised as the fix to end all fixes. But so were all the other fixes and they didn't work.
The roof-headliner rattles and vibrations have tsb fixes but they don't work either. My wife and I are tired of riding in our friend's Suburbans and Odysseys that are much older than our infiniti and noticing how the dvd players don't bounce all over the place and rattle constantly. And the qx56 is marketed as a luxury vehicle. These are just a few of the problems, but the shaking and rattling is so irritating.
The saddest part is the infiniti service. The first few times we brought it in they returned it with lines like " the brakes are better than new," and "the roof is 100% solid." Now they bounce back and forth from "it is that way by design" to "can we try an experimental fix on your roof and if it works we will use it on our other qx56s?"
I have rarely brought a vehicle into the dealer to have problems fixed and I have never had to do it twice. infiniti has had my vehicle 5 times and still won't / can't get it right or even close. I have currently waited 2 weeks for them to make an appointment with a dts (district technical specialist) to look at it. And once the appointment is made who know how much longer until the appointment date. It is aggravating.
If anyone is thinking that the quirks have been worked out on the 2005s they're wrong. The infiniti rep said mine, referring to the headliner, "shakes less than the 2005s." My opinion, after driving a 2005 for 1 week during one of the patch up jobs, is that the 2005s shake and rattle less than the 2004s but still far from what a luxury marketed vehicle should. I could have the same ride from a 1999 Suburban for $45,000 less.

Hi everyone,
Seems Im in the same boat as many others. I have approximately 4800 miles and my brakes started acting up. Took it to the dealer overnight and I was told that the rotors were not replaced but brushed per Infiniti's instructions. I had heard of the brake problems (and asked the salesman) before I purchased but was assured that it wasn't a widespread problem and if it became a problem Infiniti backs its cars 100%. Now im starting to wonder if they have the end-all fix, why are they only grinding rotors? I have yet to pick up my qx56 and im wondering if I should demand that they replace the rotors? My wife drives the qx primarily and with a 7 month old in the car Im not much for risk taking anymore. Anyone have any suggestions or is this common practice?

Please have them to replace the rotors. When I picked my qx56 up after the 3rd brake pad replacement, I almost wrecked from the jerking the brakes did when applied. I had to turn right around and take the vehicle back, and they acknowledged they should have replaced the rotors. I must confess, I did get rid of my problem last month (traded that thing!), and while I have questioned if I really should have, I am happy I did. I have 2 children, 6 & 8, and should never second question their safety. Brake issues are safety issues. And after several conversations with the Infiniti Customer Relations and Arbitration, they will only stick to the warranty, meaning replacement everytime....until sometime is seriously hurt, I suppose! Good luck, but remember material things can be replaced, not loved ones!

Agree. American SUVs are built horrible. Great drivetrains but terrible fit & finish. Had a $48000 03 Chevy Tahoe Z71 loaded. here's my list of problems the dealer called normal, all before the truck had 10K miles:
> cracked windshield 1st cold day when using the defroster
> fuel pump that constantly had a load humming noise
> 3 of 4 front lenses (2 headlite, 1 marker lite) had water inside
> flood in front passenger floor every time it rained
> 3 sensors changed
> door lock mechanism replaced
> trans slipped constantly
> stuck in 4x4 every now & then
> radio replaced 3 times (1 time at 15K mi)
and not to mention that great Chevy loaner program....the local BUS stop...
all this for a $48,000 truck.....NO LOANER w/ all these problems..oh no wait, I got a loaner once. a Malibu they scraped together, was filthy dirty had 90,000 miles on it and smoked inside and outside w/ CO fumes....
couldnt wait to trade the Z71 in for the QX56. love the Q and we're on our 3rd Infiniti and the service is always excellent....a hard lesson I learned w/ Chevy....check out your dealer's service dept before buying from them....
I thought about the Caddy for a minute, but it was another GM product and your had to pay about $20,000 more (w/tax) than the QX56 to get the same options...The QX was a no brainer....and you get a free loaner....my brother in law has 2 Escalades and has same service issues I had with the Z71...and sometimes he doesnt even get a loaner.what a joke $68,000 for a Caddy and no loaner, typcial GM BS....BUY THE QX and save the $$$ and the headaches you are sure to get with the domestic SUV's

Yes I too have this problem and I think many others. I contacted my dealership and he flat out told me that Infinity is aware of the problem but has not issued a fix. Infact, they are telling their Maintenance people to just stall us with BS information. I emailed infinity HQ today and am awaiting their reply. Please let me know if you get a fix or respond to this from the manufacturer. Beleave me, after spending $50k for a vehical, I am raaaaaaging mad.

I would hope that you read some of the issues that many QX56 owners have had. While I know all vehicles can have issues, these are inexcusbable, and not worth dealing with. I had an '03 Escalade and did have some issues (air condition went out 3 times) but I always had a GM rep to talk with me when I wanted to talk. I always got free loaners, with every make vehicle I've had.
I hope the best for you, and am happy I got rid of my QX56 after owning for about 8 months!

I can't tell you how much i love the QX56. i think it has a lot of features that most here would agree could make it the top in its class, but the refinement issues will prevent this truck from rising to the top. I want an SUV, and i've considered the Navigator, but that truck is is over priced and it doesn't retain its resale value good. The GM offerings like the denali and escalade are have good engines, but cheap fit and finish, and other problems. My freind has the Escalade pick up, which is the ESV i think, and the quality on that truck is mediocre. The moon roof leaked, the truck rattles, water in the tail lights as someone mentioned already i think, i just wouldn't get it, and the Range rover is a lot more then i want to spend and doesn't have enough room I want, and the LX 470 suffers from the same issues as far and room and power goes. I guess i'm going to settle for a car.
