Bob, I whole heartedly agree with you. I wish I had been able to get my dealership to discount the extended warranty on my 07 avalon like you did.. but that didnt happen.. I bought my avy 2 months ago and I took out the extended warranty. In my case the warranty cost was double what you paid, $1595 but it was explained to me to be a 6 year 100 thousand mile warranty with a $50 deductable...Since I have never traded in a car before it was 8 to 10 years old, I decided the extended warranty was a good insurance policy. I hope I never need it.. that way when I buy my next toyota I'll just bypass the ext. warranty altogether. btw, my extended warranty is transfereable, so thats a good point.. not sure who issued your ext. warranty but I just checked the paperwork and mine is from some company called LDS, and its their LDS ULTIMATE COVERAGE PLAN. It is supposed to be pretty much a bumper to bumper plan.. and upon looking over the literature it covers just about everything except tires, batterys, wear and tear on brakes, upholstery.. the only thing I see that's not covered that I wish was covered is the exhaust system, including the catalytic converter...Those things can be expensive, in fact saw a piece on the local news last week where thieves are crawling under cars in store parking lots and stealing the converters...can you believe that?

johngreis: Yes---that's why I got the 7 year 75K mile warranty---after 5 years and I figure I'll put on somewhere between 50-60K miles, I can sell and the new owner has at least 2 years and what mileage remains of the 75,000 mile warranty. And, remember--it is still a FULL "0" Deductible Warranty--just like they were buying a new car--O2 sensors, laser Cruise, VSC, nav--all the electronic gadgetry, engine, A/C---etc!! Not too shabby and I believe if I remember right it only costs $50 to transfer. Again, a cheap price for such a comprehensive warranty backed by Toyota. I DO keep VERY accurate maintenance records--not only for the warranty but, it show the next owner the Full Service history of the car.

Roland: Where did you get your warranty? You can get the following Toyota warranty's thru Greenfield Toyota: 7 year, 100K Mile "0" Deductible $990--that was the last figure I had. I understand there's a dealer in Kansas--it was listed in the Forum awhile back--and they even sell for less than Greenfield. I just looked up my quotes from Greenfield---7 year 100K--$990 5 year 75 K $595 7 year 75K $695--6 year 100K--$875--ALL "0" Deductible!! LDS sounds like an after market outfit--not that they're bad--just that you can get a Toyota backed warranty for much less!! Like I said in my previous post, with the Toyota warranty they're responsible to get the car to the nearest dealer. Checkout other warranty's--they might cover $50 worth of towing----$50 doesn't get ya very far if you're broken down in the middle of Montana and the nearest Toyota dealer is 150-200 miles away. I'd check with Greenfield on the price and then see what it would cost to cancel your existing warranty and buy the toyota 6 year 100K mile Waranty for $875--or cheaper from the Kansas dealer. You paid $1,595--less the $875 + $700 savings----so even if it cost you $100-$200 to cancel old warranty--you'd still be ahead--twice--$$$$ & quality of the warranty! Good luck!

bob... thanks for the heads up.. and i'm going to look into the toyota warranty. I can't even begin to tell you why my dealership didnt offer a "toyota" extended warranty. The LDS Warranty was sold to me by the Toyota dealership where I bought my car. Go figure. But I'm going to look into it since it's less than 60 days old and see what recourse I have. And even if I can't get out of it I still have the peace of mind of knowing I'm covered for up to 100k miles. But I sure would like to get some of my money back and have that zero deductable. thanks again.

Roland---found the Kansas Toyota dealer--- www.crownautomotive.com i haven't dealt with them--but--a Toyota Warranty is a Toyota Warranty! They're in Lawrence, KS, Don't know if I mentioned this or not---I'd originally bought my warranty from my dealer--when i found out about the discounted Greenfield warranty I called Cedar rapids, IA, where they administer the Toyota warranty's and asked about cancelling mine--no problem--I did lose $125--but, when I bought from Greenfield I saved $1,650 minus the $990 Greenfield price I was still $535 ahead. Good luck and let us know the outcome. I'd also complain to your dealer about the lack of selling an authentic Toyota warranty. thye probably make more $$$ with the LDS Warranty!

You can return your extended warranty and get all your money back. i bought a '06 toyota in June and just received my $1175 in the mail last week - you may have to cancel within a set period to recoup your cash. check the plantinum booklet you received with your warranty paperwork!

Hello again Bob... just checked my paperwork on my LDS warranty... If I had cancelled my policy in the first 30 days I would have gotten a full refund minus a $50 cancellation fee.. the 9th of this month will mark 60 days since I took out the LDS Warranty.. According to the lds paperwork, after 30 days, I can cancell with a $50 cancellation fee, plus protated on the number of months the policy has been in use ( rule of 12/78ths which I have no earthly idea what that is ) also I"m alittle confused...did you buy your toyota extended warranty from crownautomotive.com in Kansas, or did you getit in Cedar Rapids or Greenfield? I'm lost. also, is the extended warranty you purchased an actual "TOYOTA" EXTENDED WARRANTY. If so, do you mind telling me what a 7 yr, 100K zero deductable policy runs? Thanks for your help.

XL with VSC but no moonroof

I'm getting ready to buy a 2007 Avalon XL. I want VSC on the car, but not a moonroof. (Being 6' 5", I prefer extra headroom to a hole in the roof I'll rarely use.) Looking at the DriveChicago website which lists dealer inventories in the Chicago area, this seems to be a rare configuration; i.e. it appears that virtually all XL's with VSC also have moonroofs. Out of around 50 XL's listed on DriveChicago right now, it appears that exactly one car has this configuration -- and, naturally, this one car isn't a color that I like.
Can anyone in the know confirm my impression that XL with VSC but without moonroof is a rare configuration? If so, do I need to be talking to dealers about preferencing or ordering a car with this specific configuration or is that even a possibility? I was planning to email bid requests to the internet managers at a bunch of dealerships to get my best price, but I don't know if that technique will work if I am looking for an unusual configuration.
Any info or suggestions appreciated.

Just purchased a 07 Avalon Limited for $31,653 OTD at Jay Toyota in Columbus GA. No NAV or other amenities just a spoiler ($289) and carpet mats (taxes and title not included in this price). MSRP was $35,269. This seemed to be the best deal we could get in the area including Atlanta. Found the board to be very helpful in negotiating price. Thanks to all and I hope this info is useful to others.
