Hi Frank,

NH does not have sales tax, so the OTD price was just $31,700 + $298 doc fee = ~$32k

Had the car delivered yesterday. . .smooth, comfortable ride.

Regards,

John

fadil: Dealer cost is $26,775 + $580 Shipping or $27,355. Remember--the dealer gets 3% Holdaback from the MSRP of $27775 or $803. Total invoice for an XL--NO Options is $24,501 including the $580 Shipping. So, if the dealer sold you the car for invoice, he still makes $803 because of the holdback. I saw an XL advertised at St Louis dealer going for $25,099--MSRP was $27,554--it had the $199 Carpet Mat Set--so, with the MSRP of 27,554 less the $580 shipping--the MSRP is $26,974 & with the 3% Holdback--the dealer makes $809. The Carpet Mat Set costs the dealer $126. I'd shoot for paying invoice or $24,501--remember, dealer still makes $809 on the 3% Holdback--start at INVOICE. Not sure where you live---but--get quotes from as many dealers as possible. You'll notice if you check their inventories, you'll "In Stock" and "Available"---print out the "Available Listing"--if the dealers are in the same area--the Available Listing will be identical!! Play them against each other!! Your problem might be getting the color you want. Remember--the dealer "holds" the Holdback as sacred $$$$--so hang tough!!! Good luck and let us know what ya paid!!

One way to score a big discount by gohawaiian

I bought a brand new 2005 Avalon Limited in May 2006 after comparing prices on a similarly equipped 2006 model. The savings were pretty dramatic: 19% (over $6K) off the 2005 MSRP (incl. shipping) versus 10.5% discount offered on the 2006 MSRP. Since the 2006 model was virtually unchanged from 2005, and I plan to keep the car at least 6 years, choosing the 2005 model with its considerable extra savings was a "no brainer" for me. Likewise, if you determine that the 2007 model is not significantly different from the 2006 model, and that the 2006 model still offers you all that you want, you might want to negotiate for a hefty discount on the 2006 model, since dealers will be anxious to clear them when the 2007 cars arrive.

I'm looking for an XL with VSC on it and there are none in the northwest region and it's getting close to changing production years. Does anyone know when they will quit producing the 06 Avalons? Also, any idea of what percentage the base price will increase?

smithmasa: They should have an inventory the dealers draw from--if you go to www.toyota.com you can find all the dealers in a respective Zip Code or close proximity. A friend just bought a "plain Jane XL---they live in St Louis---car was found at a dealer in Emporia, KS! Keep loking--I'm sure if adealer wants to sell--he'll find one!! Good luck!

Purchased a 2006 Silver Pine Mica, XL, with leather, sunroof, 6-disc changer; anti-theft system for $29.3K drive out price.

Thanks again for everyone's help.
