Madison, WI - Recent Experiences? by tenjoh

Anyone in Southern Wisconsin have any recent experiences and/or advice to share? I'm a newbie buyer in the market for a 2007 TL/Navi a/t.

With few in-state dealers, it's hard to get a competitive price. Middleton Acura (aka Zimbrick)'s rep acted rather offended I dared to try haggling. He gave me "we don't do invoice" and "I don't even know what invoice would be"; his best offer was 35300 before TTL. Acura of Brookfield (which appears also affiliated with Zimbrick) didn't have much in stock and pretty much was quoting MSRP. Boyland Acura (in Appleton) was a bit more reasonable, after some discussion, at 36700 OTD (high 34K before TTL).

The prices are better in Chicagoland (a couple quotes just above/below $34K before TTL), but I am unfamiliar with what extra steps might be involved in buying out of state.

Any input would be much appreciated!

As a recent newbie buying my new TL with Navi only two saturdays ago I have some insight. I hagled and hagled with one dealer and finally set an appointment to come in and buy. He quoted $33,800 originally then threw in wheel locks and took off $100. Two days before the big day I got to thinking maybe I should have priced other dealers. So during my lunch breaks I hagled with several other dealers in the Chicagoland area and it paid off! I ended up with several quotes at $33,700 including destination and finally ended up settling with Acura of Palatine as they offered $33,700 with wheel locks, all weather mats (a must in Chicago), trunk tray and splash guards on all 4 wheels. If you take off all the extras I got the car for about $33,300 or so which is below invoice. I also purchased the 8yr/100k mile warranty as I found out the navi system is a few grand to replace and thats a lot of technology that just am not sure about. Plus with my dealer I get free car washes any time I want which is a plus as well. I would highly recommend making a deal with a Chicago dealer as they seem to be much better deal-wise here. Also, go through the internet to quote as I got $500 off the extended warranty for going that route. Watch out if you have a trade in because they screwed me over on that which I knew would happen. Let me know if you need a contact at a Chicago dealer an I'll be glad to hook you up!

I like in chicagoland and leased a Mini at International Mini in Milwaukee a few years ago. There were not any extra steps or fees. I believe border hopping is quite common and the dealers know how to handle it.

I am new to car buying, although it would seem to be a very silly question but i need your advice.... last monday i test drove the 2007 TL and TL-S....i liked the TL-S in white, as they only had one in white i gave a deposit to hold on to that particular car....i told the salesman that i will buy it next week.....
As i am in the middle of refinancing my house and it will be done by Friday, i don't want the dealership to run my credit till Friday.....
Therefore, my question is that how does the process work ?? does the dealership has to run my credit first and then they talk about pricing ??? can i ask for a price quote and hagle the price before they run my credit ??? Please advice...

I see you found the forum on finance questions.. You'll probably get better answers there, as your question isn't model specific.

Thanks!

I'd call the salesperson and/or F&I person at the dealership.. and tell them exactly why you don't want them to run your credit, until Friday.

But, if you are closing on the house within the next week, they have most likely already processed your loan.. and will likely not see any credit checks.

Doesn't mean it can't happen, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Here is what I did last Monday, I went to the dealer walked around the showroom, the salesman I was to meet was on the phone so I went to the lot and checked all inventoried Tl's looking for the trim and color I wanted and found at least 3 first choice, 3-4 second choice and so on, then I took a Type-S (auto) for a test drive, I had asked if they had a manual, they did so I drove that as well, when I returned the salesman was wanting to talk numbers so to play along I agreed I started the bidding at invoice $35,638 no luck on that after back and forth of this the GM said his best $ was $36,500 but I think I can do better however no credit check or background check was asked for. Hope this helps.
