Extended warranty & accessories by armanipatrick

I'm going to the dealership tommorow to do the paperwork and will pick up the car this weekend. My quoted price including destination charges is $33725. I'll post OTD and other info after the purchase.
I know there are other forums regarding warranty and accessories but they are low-traffic so I'll ask my question here.
Did anyone who purchased the TL recently get the extd wrnty? Why?
Are there any options worth having? I'm thinking about the splash guards. Are they practical and useful?
Thanks!

Congrats, armanipatrick. Get the propack, which consists of splash guards, 4 season mats and wheel locks, for about $200. It is well worth it.

Thanks for the tip, kennyg8.
My dealer's accessories list has the price of the propack with splash guards, wheel locks and all-season floor mats (with installation) at $345.
I'll try to knock it down some. If they don't I'll just buy them online. There seem to be plenty of web sites hawking them.

I got the wheel locks and trunk tray included in my price. I bought the painted splash guards separately and installed them myself. I didn't like the black splash guards. They seem cheap.

vicnation,
Do you need tools to install the splash guards or do they just snap in?
Thanks.

All you will need is a stubby phillips screwdriver. When you buy the splash guards, make sure you ask them to print a set of installation instructions for you. The parts department shouldn't raise a flap about that since they are required to print it if asked.

The rear guards are a little unusual as they come with a bracket but the instructions are quite clear. You will re-use the screws currently in the front wheel wells. The rears come with new fasteners.

Good luck...

Regarding the extended warranty, I bought it when I bought my new 07 TL type S about a month ago. The reason I bought it is I am planning on keeping my car for a while (6-8 years). I know that Acuras/Hondas are supposed to be one of the most reliable makes on the planet along with Toyota. With all the electrical/electronics gizmos (Nav, backup camera, DVD-Audio Sound system, climate control, power mirrors, seats, doors, windows, moonroof, etc.) I feel better about having some assurance that it will be covered under warranty for as long as I own it and I won't have to pay $500-$1000 if any of the electronics components go out. I figure for the tune of $1500, it is a reasonable cost of insurance. Also, it may provide for a easier way sell my car when I am ready.

How much do you spend every year on car insurance and hoping to never have to use it. Living in So Cal, car insurance premiums can be about $500 every 6 months for full coverage for a new car. When you are in an accident and you use your insurance to repair your car, your premiums sky rocket for the next 3 years.

So, I paid $1500 to have mechanical breakdown coverage for 8 years, 120,000 miles with zero deductible using AcuraCare to have a piece of mind.

For me, it provides me with the a piece of mind.

Also, your question about options worth having, When I bought my TLS, I negotiated the pro-pack (wheel locks, painted mud guards and trunk tray) in the price of the car ($35,100 which included destination).

Just my 2 cents worth,

Spyder.

I just received a quote from my credit union for 7yr/100k miles -- $1082 with 0 deductible and if I never tap into the warranty I get the entire amount back. They use Interstate Auto Guard (diamond level policy). I've found credit union services to be extremely trustworthy in the past. I've had good experiences leasing autos and purchasing insurance from them. I still have to read the fine print but at a quick glance I saw they do cover mechanical breakdowns which a lot of other warranties don't. More later...

I just did a quick google search on Interstate autoguard to see what kind of coverage they provide. Here is what I found.

"With AutoGuard Diamond, if it's NOT listed below, it's covered!"

"Exclusions:
Carburetor; battery; shock absorbers; manual transmission clutch assembly; friction clutch disc and pressure plate; throw out bearing; manual and hydraulic linkages; distributor cap and rotor; safety restraint systems (including air bags); glass; lenses; sealed beams; light bulbs; brake rotors and drums; exhaust and emission systems*; weather strips; trim; moldings; bright metal; chrome; upholstery and carpet; paint; outside ornamentation; bumpers; body sheet metal and panels; tires; wheels/rims; GPS navigation systems; phone systems and TV/Video/Entertainment systems.

Maintenance services and parts described in your vehicle's owner's manual as supplied by the manufacturer.

Just a word of caution: Be CAREFUL about buying 3rd party contracts.

I was one of the few lucky ones who bought a 3rd party warranty from 1Sourceautowarranty.com several years ago. I got my money's worth from them. I paid $1800 for a contract and they paid about $3000 worth of repairs on my car, until they went belly up. Also, look at Warranty Gold. They were huge and sold thousands of contracts and left customers high and dry.

Again, my point is be VERY careful about 3rd party warranties. They may be cheaper up front, but you may regret it later.

Spyder.
