"The 258 HP is as per the new SAE standard. The actual HP is the same - only the value being reported has been updated."
As I understand it, that's almost right. My understanding is that the SAE standard is not new, it's just that all manufacturers are now being asked/required to apply it (or perhaps get independent testing conforming to it), rather than fudge their own numbers.
Which brings me to a point of contention I have had with Acura for awhile. They have consistently "fudged" their horsepower numbers high. Every adjustment for 2006 is DOWN. None are up. As embarassing as it is to admit, Ford and GM are actually revising some of their numbers upward. And when I test drove a 225 horsepower 330i back to back with the TL in 2004, it was clearly as quick or quicker, in spite of a supposedly 45 hp disadvantage. I knew back then that the TL, nice as the car was and is, did not have 80 more horsepower than my 1995 Nissan Maxima.
I do not rely upon published horsepower ratings to influence my car purchase decisions. That's what test drives are for. But I still find it offensive that a company with the reputation of Acura is willing to risk it by overstating their horsepower ratings. What else might this lack of integrity lead to? Perhaps claim automatic transmission flaws are fixed when they are not??
I have been, and currently remain, a fan of Acura. But I am not a dumb or blind fan, and it would be good for them to realize that this kind of marketing puffery doesn't engender consumer confidence.

I am looking for a 2005 TL with Navi and the best I have found here in Central Fl is 500 over invoice and free splash Guard, trunk tray and wheel locks.. I am still holding out for lower than invoice pricing. What do the splash guards look like??

localsd,
I recently purchase a '05 TL with navigation (black on black) from Santa Monica Acura for $31,490 including dest fees and mud guards. My OTD was $34,094. I interacted with their internet sales rep. Keyes in Van Nuys was willing to match but did not have the color combo.
There were several SoCal posts about 1 month ago which really helped me in terms of negotiating for such a low price - check the board for details as many people posted their price quotes from all SoCal dealers. Good luck...

Nothing is free.
Im picking up an 05 Red/parchment non navi tonight. It breaks down like this:
1) Invoice: $30,164
2) Dealer installed options (Splash guards, wheel locks, trunk mat): $237
3) Delivery $615
_________________________________________________________
4) Total: $31016
So I got it for $16 under invoice.
Good luck with your search.
Oh and heres a link to the splash guards:

Thanks everyone!
utc2, when did you get your TL? that's a great deal! i read all the SoCal pricing posts and i think the lowest price from one with navi is $34,641. this person said they bought theirs from glendale.
i've requested quotes from a lot of dealers and they all seem to be giving $35K+ OTD. i am getting the feeling that maybe i waited too long
like liferules mentioned before, the TLs are becoming more limited. i guess i was just thinking (hoping) that the prices will go down because the 06 models are in.

Localsd,
I purchased on 9/1. I was also playing the waiting game that you are playing but soon learned the color combo I wanted was tough to come by so I jumped on a deal that was hard to pass up. Refer to message #4379 for details. There was a flurry of posts around that time from SoCal buyers that really helped me. Here is a cut and paste of my message and the quotes I received. Good luck again. My advice would be to write Santa Monica and Keyes and tell them you are looking for a quote of about $31,500 w/ dest fees. Be very detailed in your message in terms of what you want. They will likely go for it if they have the car on their lot. It was a very painless experience dealing with the internet guys.
"Cush (SD) - $34,199
Cush (Escondido) - stated they called me (in their emails) but never did
Norm Reeves (Temecula) - $32,855
Santa Monica - as above
Keyes (Van Nuys)- did price match but for over a week and to this datedid not have the color combo in stock
Cerritos - could not match
Tustin - could not match
Gold Coast (Ventura) - could not match
Weir Canyon (Anaheim) - $32,599
Acura 101 (Calabasas) - never returned my email
Van Nuys and Santa Monica turned out to be the cheapest and this is consistent with other posts."
Vrsc,
The splash guards personally look very nice on the darker cars as they are black. I have them on my nighthawk black Tl and love them. They tend to stand out a bit too much on lighter colors. I've seen posts on other forums from people who painted them to match their cars. Hope that helps.
Sorry for the long post all....

localsd.... welcome to the TL boards...
The key to remember is don't rely on just working with the lowest price dealer indicated...as the low cost dealer leadership keeps shifting. The key is to cast a wide net....and keep working away.
However...San Diego is horrible! Their prices are consistently $1.5k off of the pricing if you drove one hour....which makes the commute worth it.
utc2....great job in assisting ....great help.

thanks for the welcome delmar1
i'm both excited and a little scared about this purchase. this is going to be my first "new" car. i LOVE my car right now but it's older ('92 accord). still works but starting to have problems. i'm also not very knowledgable when it comes to cars
i actually started requesting quotes from dealers back in late june just to get an idea of the prices. now i am back at it again and i've sent out a lot of requests even to AZ. san diego prices are ridiculous! i remember going to a local dealership and the price they quoted me was $37K....and that was just invoice!
i really appreciate all the input (delmar1 & utc2 especially
)
sorry for the long post
