All you folks trying to explain the intricacies of selling cars at a profit should read RRoyce's profile. I believe Terry has been helpfully answering questions on Edmunds boards for some time. I think you need an My theory? Doc fees. Yup, that's the money maker. Or is it the service department that makes the $$$ for the dealer? Nah, it's the Doc Fees. Oh, yeah. I'm sure there are plenty of "uneducated" consumers that don't pay "invoice" and buy paint sealant and spend much time with the Finance guy that afford a dealer to make an overall average profit. I dealt with two Boston area dealers who did not balk at selling me a TL at what I believed to be invoice. The trade in value of my Chrysler 300M was the sticking point (second delaer offered 50% higher, they got my business. Too bad, I did all my research at dealer 1, but they let me walk. Darn free enterprise!). Hey, maybe that's how these poor dealers make money! Trade in, buy low sell high. Money is made on the buy, not the sale. Nah, it's the Doc Fees. |

Got my 2005 Black/Quartz, Navigation, 6spd TL for $33,500 plus tax/title/doc fees bring the OTD price to $34,060. You guys think that is a good deal?

Replying to: lalacalif (Jul 18, 2005 6:31 am) I test drove one this past weekend at Gillman. Question: Does paying cash for a car, give you a better deal? The salesman stated that it wouldn't make a difference...maybe 1500 off the price. And since the '06 models come out in Oct., would I get a better deal on an '05 around that time? Any info is appreciated. |

Replying to: float (Jul 18, 2005 7:47 am) But as you know the pickin's is getting thin...they quite making the 05's already and started on the 06's so now is the time to buy...make sure to get quotes from as many dealers as you are willing to travel. For me it was a 300 mile radius...it saved me $1300 bucks by doing that...dealerships will vary with price and availibility of the colors you are looking for, navi-non-navi, etc...once you have a handful of internet quotes then you can really get down to business...best price should win, but not always...take the dealership for example...is it a good one..or one with a bad rep? Go back through some of the threads here, plenty of people buying in the Texas region...see what they were paying for their cars...a little research can save you big $$$$...good luck!! |
