TX quote gathering 4... The final search for a better deal by nightcrawler29

Today i got a call from one dealership which said they would beat their nearby competition, which had given me a quote of $32998 the week before. I told them that it better be good, because I had another car in mind besides the TL, and was in the research and quote gathering process. After some emailing back and forth throughout the day and a few phone calls we ended up at $32700, although they were not very eager to let it go at this price. I told the salesman that considering the invoice price of $32555, and that some people had reported buying this car at invoice or less, the $32700 seemed adequate. Sales person tried to bring it up to the $32900's, but told him I would take it for $32700 and no more. Salesman called back an hour later saying $32700 was ok, so I asked for OTD price cost, which is $2043.75 in taxes, plus approx $180 for title & license. We agreed on amount and placed a $500 deposit, and requested salesman to email transaction details which he did 2 hours later. Once he emailed me the info he said he "forgot to include an inventory tax". I estimate the inventory tax to be $78.67... which brought total OTD costs to $35002.42. This is for a new 2005 Acura TL w/Nav, tinted windows, and wheel locks. I know that based on previous posts, I could have reduced the price a bit more if I had waited a little more to the end of the month.... but well, the car was exactly what I wanted with Silver/Ebony interior.
Question now is: Has anyone ever heard about an inventory tax after TTL?? seems to me that's one of those useless out of the blue fees they throw at you... kind of like shaking you upside down for extra dough after you reached an agreement!

I wouldn't worry about it, it sounds like you got a great deal. I love my Silver/Ebony

Yeah, on second thought, I think $35002.42 was ok. I remember talking to other dealers who mentioned that title and license combined were around $250....so well, I'm as happy as a clown! I got this from Vandergriff Acura, in Arlington, TX. Will go pick it up tomorrow. I had to choose between Silver or Anthracite... but yesterday saw an Anthracite, and it looked really dirty, so I'm taking Silver/Ebony

Yeah, its better to negotiate base price prior to TTL. Destination fees should be included on the base price, although it might be a bit exagerated.

At first I really disliked the Anthracite, but I have since changed my mind. In certain lighting it almost looks like a liquid chrome, does that make sense? But I really prefer the Silver/Ebony combo, just fantistic, and the aluminum and black leather looks great. Even when it's dirty, it doesn't show as much as the darker colors.

Many dealers have websites which list their 'inventory'. However...I found the inventory listing to to incomplete and inaccurate....therefore not to be relied upon.

My view is that if you have a decent dealer you are working with...that person should be able to locate and get the car of choice to you.

Acura financing deals? by andreizm

Are there any existing or upcoming Acura financing specials that you are aware of? Looking to buy an '05 TL and trying to explore all possible avenues of financing.

Also, a quick sales tax question. I have a choice of either selling my current car to a private party and applying the proceeds as the downpayment for Acura, or trading it in to the dealer. How does this affect the sales tax on TL? Is it calculated on the difference between the sales price and the trade-in? I am in California, by the way.

Thanks,

-Andrei

..**this is nothing but BS, since they probably have pre-arranged contracts with carriers that transports their cars in bulk for them for a discount.**

Destination is charged by the manufacturer, not the dealer and it's on the invoice ... any negotiations are done by the factory and have nothing to with the dealers, if there is any profit then the factory will see it (if any) .. it's also based on an average, that means the vehicles that go to Charleston SC and Boston have to be averaged out with the ones that go San Diego and Seattle ...

how much for options? by nolegs

Once I've negotiated the price for the Automatic w/Navi at $33,200, how much should I be paying for the options? I'd like to get the full ground effects kit, rear deck spoiler and a few other small items. What discount off the price listed online should I negotiate for? The dealer I spoke with said it's a separate department and he doesn't care if I purchase the options from him.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
