#3453 of 12039 2005 Acura TL Non Nav Purchase price - Chicago Suburbs by scottb3

May 22, 2005 (3:31 pm)

I just purchased a 2005 Acura TL Automatic/Non Navigation with only 8 miles on it yesterday at Acura of Libertville, IL. Here is the breakdown:

$30638 Price, includes destination
$ 1995 Sales Tax
$ 143 License (new)
$ 55.39 Title
$32831.39 Total Out the Door Price

I had contacted this dealer via email and received an email requesting me to call him for an actual quote. He quoted me $30688. Another dealer in the far northwest suburbs via telephone quoted me $31800. When I told them that that the other dealer came in much lower, he matched the offer but only if I chose silver. Libertyville had any color available and also lowered their quote another $50 to $30638. Both dealers included the protection package in the price.

I didn't want silver so purchased the car at Acura of Libertyville. I was in and out of the dealership within 1 hour. No hassles, no pressure... a very pleasant buying experience. Negotiating via email and telephone is the way to go.

Thanks to all who posted their buying experiences, it was a huge help. For future posters, please remember to itemize the purchase details. Only providing an out of door price does not allow for useful comparisons. Also, ignore the Edmund's TMV price, it seems that most people are getting prices substancially lower than it.

So far, I love the car, it's really fun to drive! Thanks everybody!

Thanks for the detailed information. Out of curiosity, did the price include a dealer protection package in that price, and if so, which one? My understanding is that there are two different pro paks;

PP1 includes wheel locks, splash guards, and trunk tray and retails for $237
PP2 includes wheel locks, splash guards, and all weather floor mats and retails for $320

Thanks in advance!

I currently have a quote of $33,300 plus 2 free oil changes on a SSM w/Nav from a west suburban Chicago dealership. This includes the destination charge as well as the protection package (Trunk Tray, All Season Mats and Splash Guards).

Is this a good price???

For those in the Charlotte or just general NC/SC area, I'd suggest you consider Flow Acura in Winston-Salem or Crown Acura in Greensboro. I am in the Charlotte area and had several discussions with Hendrick Acura. I may continue talking with them and doing a bit of negotiation but they have only come down to a price of 33.8 for a 2005 with navigation.

I sent an email to Leith Acura in Cary and the 2 dealers in Winston and Greensboro. I did not contact Performance Acura in Chapel Hill because I belive they are affiliated or part of the Hendrick dealership and I was already in discussions with them. The response I got back from Leith surprised me .. the internet manager essentially said he did not try to undercut other dealers, he wasn't interested in making me a lower offer and that I was already at a great price point with Hendrick. He encouraged me to use my hometown dealer because there were "lots of perks". He also said that Leith and Hendrick were the 2 largest dealers in the state and offered similar prices. Not sure if they have some sort of gentleman's agreement or not but their loss. Perhaps this is a case where large and higher overhead means they can't or don't feel like competing quite as much.

Crown and Flow both called me back immediately and were willing to take several hundred dollars off my deal. I have not fully committed yet but I am currently looking at a price of 33.4. I can provide more details after I sign the paperwork this weekend.

I've seen it posted earlier but I have also heard that there will be a 2.9% APR financing special that will start this weekend and run through Memorial Day. I don't believe that special has been available in NC (at least) since the Christmas holidays. Hope this helps!

Acccording to Consumer Reports, invoice for a TL with Navi is 32,555, and that includeds a 1053 hold back. So wholesare price is 31502, but invoice is what you should pay because they do need to make some money. I paid about 250 over invoice because they held the car for me for a day.
