I bought my TL in Chicagoland back in Feb. I spent time dealing (or trying to deal) with several of the 6 Acura dealers here and had the best deal at Napleton in Elmhurst. Two bits of advice is to get internet quotes first, and specify the price you want is all inclusive except TTL.

Hey how are ya? I hope you didnt buy your TL yet...99% of dealers have hidden incentives and other things which we all dont know about. even if they sell you the car at or below invoice they are still making a profit anywhere from $500-$1500 in manufacturer holdback incentives. Go to the dealer with a printout from edmunds.com or cars direct.com work from the invoice up. NEVER EVER EVER go by the MSRP. If anything ask below invoice, less then what you are willing to pay. If the invoice is 32,000 or something like that for the TL/nav then ask for 31,000. if there is another acura dealer near you, even better. Dont be afraid to walk out, they will call you back...trust me on that one. Also dont let them approach you and ask how they can help you and what is youre price range blah blah blah. Thats basically a standard in selling cars course 101. Make sure you know what you want, power options and all. The best thing you can do honestly to get the best deal...Go to your bank or your credit union and tell them you want buy a car and try to get a pre approved loan through them and have them cut you a check. then you go to the dealer basically with cash. If the TL w/NAV at invoice is 32,000 tell them that you will bring them a check either that day or the next for (start low)$29,500. Believe me you will get a great deal. If you pay cash for it,i.e. bank check, pre-approved loan you should get at for at least $1000 below invoice. Last but not least, after you get your deal you will then meet with the sales manager who is going to try and sell you all sorts of warranties. Seriously ask yourself, if they are trying to sell me this great car which does all this and that and comes with a manufacturers warranty. Then why are they trying to sell me this other stuff. If you really had to buy all those warranties then maybe the car isnt so great so obviously dont bother with the extra warranties, Unless you want to make a generous donation to your local dealership. Good luck let me know how it goes.

Good advice but please let us know when you find a dealer selling $29.5K for TL with Nav, or TL w/o Nav, for that matter.

Not to be rude, but DUH! All this has been discussed at length on this forum. In some areas of the country, people are getting quotes for the mid-to-high $29Ks (non-nav). However, in other parts of the country, mid $31K is the best. NOBODY is getting a Navi for anywhere near invoice. The law of supply (low) and demand (high) dictates that (though it seems quotes are coming down recently).

Another thing, dealerships will give you a BETTER deal if you finance with them instead of bringing them a check. They DON'T MAKE as much MONEY when you don't finance with them.

Another thing, a bank won't give you a car loan without the VIN (you can't just get a check).

Also, try hitting the enter key once in a while. Paragraphs are our friends!

Hi how are ya, Sorry about the non paragraphs. I just got on this forum so I havent read all of the messages. As for the dealers giving you a better deal if you finance...thats not so. Dealers go through banks, some of the big dealers have their own like acura has honda financing. They send your application to a bunch of banks when you apply through them.

I dont know how it is in the mid west but here in the northeast. I know I can get a tl with nav for invoice. When I first went to buy I got the TL for $29.7k and that was a finance. Youre right a bank wont just cut you a check without the vin number but if you get pre approved first then go to the dealer and get the deal you want offering a check thats when you go back to the bank and get it.

As for getting nav at invoice, There are so many dealers that its not their business you want, its your business they want. You can get navi for invoice. Of course you might be right about your location but up here you can.

I have to diasagree with you about the financing issue. Dealers DO make money when you fianance through them. They get a commission from the bank they wouldn't if you financed yourself. Why else would they offer that service? Typically, the best rates come through the dealership anyway. I know, I work for a BIG bank. The banks offer their best rates to dealers, not individuals.

There have been comments on this board about dealerships not working with people who had credit union financing AND asking for good deals. They were told to get a better deal, they would have to finance through the dealership.

Typically dealers work with one or two banks depending on the type of loan and credit rating. I'm not positive about this, but this is what I was told by my dealership.

It seems the prices on NAVIs are coming down, but not around here or in CA. Two months ago, invoice was unheard of.

You mean I can get a price for $1000 below invoice if I pay them in cash on the day I buy the car? I am planning to buy a TL w/Nav in August. Do you have any experience of buying a car with cash? Please let me know about it?

We both are probably wrong and right. The reason why I say this to you is because I have friends who are both sales associates and sales managers at dealers...i.e. Honda and Nissan. Their eyes light up when people buy cash. The situations Ive seen people have gotten great deals buying cash. My friend bought an Eclipse for his son. First he was going to finance it 26k for 48 months, then he asked, if I were to pay cash for this right now how much would you sell it to me for.

They sold him that same car for 20k He didnt go in having done any reasearch which I told him to do but he was able to get a pretty good deal even though I dont really think its worth it for an eclipse.

If people play their cards right they can get very good deals but it takes a lot of time and a lot of effort. This site has a lot of useful information that can be used to our advantage..i.e. cost, invoice, depreciation..etc

As for banks/credit unions vs dealerships...Dealership is always going to try and go the way for it to benefit itself. I belong to a credit union here in Boston and for a 60mth loan the apr is always going to be 3.5. However sometimes you do find special apr deals with dealers and there are so many dealers up here that buyers have the upper hand. You can just walk out of one cross the street and youre in another.

Hey PAjack how are ya? Where are you buying youre TL from? what state? I gotta run but Ill try and give you some info tomorrow, in the mean time, you might have already done this but look up cost, depreciation, option cost and how much options depreciated from last years model, even though its a new TL, nav is still nav. The biggest thing is invoice and depreciation. Good luck

I'd like to challenge you to name a single dealer that would sell a brand new TL 6-speed w/ Nav for invoice. No demos or other gimmicks like $500 pretection packages or $400 processing fees. Just the $32,120 price + taxes and tags, period.

I shopped pretty hard back in March-May and ended up with one for $1,000 over invoice in Pennsylvania. The car was ordered to my exact color specifications with the HPT package. I took delivery with 3 miles from the factory on the odometer. The supposedly great deals that I checked out in New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts and Ohio were either not for non-Nav models, automatics or demos. After I had a done deal with the high integrity PA dealership, several others offered to "try" to match it, but couldn't guarantee me a delivery date.

As for cash, I always pay cash. Sometimes it helps, other times it doesn't. In the case of the TL, it made no significant difference other than making the paperwork go quicker. So, if you have a dealer willing to sell a nav TL for invoice, post their name. I have at least one friend who would be happy to show up with 321 $100 bills if that's what it would take.
