I own a 06 tsx, bought new, 11/06. It now has almost 86,000 miles and it is loaded with paint chips-on the front hood-not on the door edges. The paint is lousy but I still love the car.

Door Not Locking with FOB by pj_columbia

I've got a problem where my 2005 TSX won't lock/unlock when I use the FOB. I hear the system trying to lock, but the knob on the door won't go down. When I try to unlock, the outside lights flash as if it were unlocking, but it doesn't unlock. I can use the key to manually lock/unlock. I've tried using the spare FOB I got with the car, but that hasn't worked either. The problem doesn't seem to be with the FOB, it seems to be in the door. Anyone else experienced and had the problem solved? Appreciate your help!

Oil Change Interval? by spedprof

Folks,

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I tried and could not find a similar question.

My 2009 Acura TSX is running fine. The maintenance reminder for the first service is set at 10,000 miles. I'm an old fashioned guy who recalls that oil changes used to be needed every 3000 miles. My driving is primarily suburban... some local, some highways, some traffic, some cities.

Should I wait until the recommended 10,000 mile mark/

Thanks.

The oil from the factory is formulated to aid engine break-in. Leave it for 10,000 miles.

Extended Warranty by radhay

My 2007 TSX reached 49.9K miles now. Wondering if I should go ahead and buy extended warranty for 48k miles more. Acuras are supposed to be reliable cars so wonderng if I should spend 1100 USD for extended warranty?

My 06 tsx, bought new 11/06, has almost 88,000 problem free miles and I did not buy the extended warranty. I follow the oil life (maintainance minder) and have had all the service done at a acura dealer that I think is excellent.

starting problems by load96

I've got a 2004 tsx with about 90k miles. A year ago, it failed to start. I put the key in, turned it and heard what sounded like an electric motor for a second or two, then nothing. I was able to push it and pop the clutch to get it going. I took it to a local service station and they said it was the starter, which they replaced.

This March, it fails to start when I have it in for other service at my local dealer. They diagnose it as a starter. Since I have a warranty on the repair, I want to take it back to the original shop that repaired. I take it over there (car starts fine many times for me) and they replace the starter. 2 months later this may, it again fails to start. I rocked the car back and forth a few times, then try again, and it starts. Everything is fine until last week it again fails to start. Again, I rock the car back and forth and it starts. I took the car back to the service shop and ask them to look at it. They tell me they ran a full electrical test, bench tested the starter and everything checks out. They then proceed to tell me that my flywheel has a few broken teeth, and that is probably why it is not starting. They say when I rock the car back ad forth, it moves the flywheel a bit to a better spot ad then it starts.

I really don't know what to believe. It feels like they are feeding me some bull. I will probably call the dealer and ask them to look at it again, however if it is another bad starter, I want the service station to honor their warranty and replace the starter. However I don't know if they really know what they are doing.

Anyone else out there had this type of problem with their TSX? Does what hte shop is telling me even make sense?

If there really are broken teeth on the flywheel it definitely should be fixed - it could mess up the starter if it interferes with proper engagement. The flywheel does not move when you rock the car unless you have it in gear. It could be another bad starter especially if they put in some cheaply reconditioned unit and the unit got messed up by the flywheel. Something is really wrong for teeth on the flywheel to break off. At that mileage you might want to consider replacing the clutch while they have the tranny out to replace the flywheel. If they put in another starter ask to look at the old one - the teeth on it may show wear from improper engagement with the flywheel.

Does manual shifting stress the auto transmission? by senseless1

I used the manual shift feature of my '06 TSX the majority of the time, until my transmission failed at 45,000 miles. I'm wondering if revving the engine and trans with the manual shift feature may have caused it's premature demise. Was this a freak thing or is it better to just leave the car in "D"?

Unlikely, unless you're doing this around redline. If you do this most of the time why didn't you just get the MT in the first place?
