It was purchased from an independent dealership and doesn’t have the Toyota Certified backing, though it checked out fine on the carfax and mechanic says it looks great. Anyways, I purchased an Extended Warranty from them, a company called Warranty Solutions which is backed by Wachovia – was this a good move? Since I didn’t purchase it from a Toyota dealer and it’s not certified, is it possible to purchase a Toyota warranty plan or should I feel safe with the Warranty Solutions or just cancel and not go with an extended warranty? It is an extremely well capitalized company with an excellent record for paying claims quickly, at full retail amounts (some companies pay less than the full repair bill) and has the lowest recorded customer complaint ratio ( 3 of every 100,000 contracts issued ) of any aftermarket provider. So it's a good contract that will pay but it depends also on what level of coverage you purchased (5 star, 4 star, 3 star) and how much you paid. You can check prices on line at 5starwarranty.net to see if you got a good deal.

It is a contract between you and Warranty Solutions for repairs that may or may not be needed on your vehicle. The contract you receive will tell you exactly what they do and do not pay for. It does not work the same as the Warranty a new car comes with. If (or when) Warranty Solutions goes bankrupt, you have no recourse. If (or when) you dispute a denied claim, you have little recourse.   With a service contract, you're basically betting that your car will need more in repairs than the amount you paid for the contract. The service contract company is betting otherwise. They set the price, who do you think wins this bet more often than not?

Thanks - in reading more on this forum, I have gone ahead and cancelled the service contract I purchased and will be recieving a full refund credited to my loan - I would rather use already established savings to pay for any car repairs that might come up then take a chance with this contract that would probably wind up being more of a headache anyways. Thanks for your advice.

I bought a 2005 Lacrosse cerified with a GM 12/12000 0 ded bumper to bumper.When this is about to expire what should i do?It has 39,000 on it when bought 9-10-09 i average abought 10,000 a year.Should i go back to the GM dealer and extend or is there a good afeter market? My last car was from carmax warrant 1700.00 for 80,000 or 7 yrs 50.00 ded and it was exellent.Any ideas guys ? I have noted some (to me) extremely disparaging posts re this firm. My very recent experience has been a very positive one.   On a 2001 VW Cabrio both front window regulators had broken w/in a month, and there were two semi-expensive repairs required to get the Check Engine Light to stay reset.   To make it short the bill at an independent was $ 1720. It was paid without a whimper. The repair shop handled all the calls, I paid him, and my Warranty Direct check arrived in about a week.   The only oddity was that they did not pay the Florida Sales Tax, but this was disclosed early on in the process.
