Edmunds article: Third-Party Extended Warranty Scams
|
The manufacturers warranty is 48 mo or 50,000 miles. As long as the vehicle is within that period you can purchase a warranty at any number of online sellers. After the 48/50 runs out you have no coverage. Doubt that you can purchase a certification on a vehicle not sold by the dealer (it is a tool subsidized by the dealer to help him sell more cars). Some may sell bmw warranties online or you can look to save some $ by checking out reliable aftermarket companies like Wachovia/GE, Allstate, Zurich, etc. Also you should check out when the car was bought. It could have been Jan of '05 in which case the car is already out of warranty

Replying to: carnetguy (Jul 07, 2009 10:03 am) Always buy a original manufacturer ext warr. ,,In your case buy a BMW ext warr issued by BMW.You can buy it online from any BMW dealer or you can buy it from your local BMW dealer. Search BMW forums on Google and look for Ext warr in those.they have a dealer listing that sell BMW warr. Again, never buy an aftermarket warr...Always buy Manuf warr.. |

I recently bought a new Chrysler and as part of the F & I song and dance they offered me an EW for only $1395. (What a bargain). Just to be nice I said I would think it over and asked to see the details to review over night. The F&I guy ripped the cover page off the contract and handed it to me but nothing else. Later I looked over this piece of paper (which had very hard to read fine print) and saw that some parts referred to other pages which the guy had not given me. Of particular interest was mention of "exclusions" which of course were on the pages not given to me. I also noticed that nowhere on the paper was the name "Chrysler". This led me to believe that I was being offered a third party warranty not backed by Chrysler. So my question is this: does Chrysler offer it's own extended warranty? I've been offered EWs in the past and never had such a bad presentation. The F&I guy acted very hurt when I mentioned this but even if I had wanted an EW I would have never bought it from him.
