However I am reading a few good stories so I am torn whether or not I should purchase an extended warranty. And if I do, with whom. Replying to: jesterg134 (Jun 19, 2009 4:09 am) I don't know what kind of car you're considering but a lot of people in these forums have gotten great deals from Black Pontiac and their gmoutlet.com. These are heavily discounted GM Protection Plan service contracts. I understand Black is also working with Warranty Solutions which is the former GE service contract company that Wachovia/Wells fargo now owns. Replying to: jesterg134 (Jun 19, 2009 4:15 am) Go to GOOGLE and type in GM OEM extended warranties or Chrysler OEM extended warranties. Plenty of good info out there. I had a Chrysler PT Cruiser and bought an OEM Chrysler warranty from a dealer in (I believe in Indiana) at a great discounted price. Hope this helps.

I'm looking to get a 2007 lexus and noticed on the autotrader posts some of them say - "Vehicle sold as-is. Extended warranty available.". The particular car I am looking at is a Lexus 2007 with 19K miles. I thought that a factor warranty would transfer over until either the time or mileage runs out? Is this just a way for the dealer to get me to buy an extended warranty from them? Also, can I check with Lexus and see what is left on the warranty on that particular vehicle using the vin number?   Thanks for any help.   -P. Replying to: penone (Jul 03, 2009 10:18 am) Lexus has a 48 month or 50,000 "bumper-to-bumper" warranty that should transfer to you. This means that you have 31,000 miles or the balance of 48 months from when the car was bought. If the original owner bought it in Jan '07 you have coverage until Jan '11 or until the car has 50K miles. There is also a warranty on the powertrain (engine, transmission and drivetrain) until the vehicle has either 70K miles or 72 months from it's original in service date (1st owner). If you are interested in extending the "bumper-to-bumper" portion of the coverage to match the powertrain (6yr/70k miles), you can purchase "wrap" coverage. This will cover everything except the powertrain (since the manufacturer is covering the powertrain) and is usually inexpensive. Look on line for someone selling discount wrap coverage from either the manufacturer or a large bank or insurance company (if it's not the name of a huge company that you recognize like GMPP, GE, Allstate, Wachovia, don't buy it) You have to buy it before the 3yr/36K coverage expires - hope that answers the question Replies to this message: penone (Jul 03, 2009 1:11 pm)

Replying to: carnetguy (Jul 03, 2009 11:26 am) Thanks carnetguy!   So the part on the ad where it says: Warranty Information ✓ AS-IS ✓ EXTENDED WARRANTY AVAILABLE This Vehicle is Being Sold "As-Is."   doesn't mean the car is out of warranty - it just means that they (meaning the car dealer) do not offer any additional warranty. I am buying a pre-owned '05 X5 from a private person and the warranty is still active till 60,000 miles or at the end of the 2009.   The seller mentioned that i can take this vechile to the any BMW dealer and get it Certified? Also, i guess the only place to get extended warranty for BMW is at the dealership?
