Extended Warranty. Yes or no? by jesterg134

I'm about to purchase a 2004 Volvo XC90 with 58k miles. One owner with all service records from a local Volvo dealerhsip. Vehicle is in excellent condition however the factory warranty has ended. I was looking at Paragon, Warranty Direct or Complete Automotive Repair Services for a warranty. Any suggestions on how I should proceed?

Thanks!

Yes...I purchased a 2003 Mercedes C240 4 matic (62k miles)from private wholesaler vs. a dealer lot. I did have to have some work done on the air conditioner. They paid $287.00, $24 and the sales tax was not covered. The private mercedes repair shop owner said it's a must to have an good warranty on cars of this age because all electronics. He was highly recommended and his specialty is German cars for 30 plus years. I paid $2700 I think for 4yrs 100k miles and no deductible. I dont want any unusual high expenses in the future. Pay now or later no free lunch. He said over time I'd get my money back. And his hourly rate is $55.
Good luck

I disagree, especially with a 3rd party warranty. Many of us here have been burned when the 3rd part warranty company went bankrupt or used every word in the fine print to wiggle out of paying a claim or used inferior parts when they finally agreed to pay.

I just purchased an 08 Chrysler Sebring from Carmax and have no plans on buying the Chrysler backed warranty for 2 grand. For that price, that's a major engine or tranny repair. Rolling the dice? Maybe, but the odds are in my favor and even if I have to shell out the bucks, it won't kill me.

All you're buying is peace of mind and I don't get that by starting out 2 grand in the hole hoping something will break down and I get my money back.

Thanks for the information. I'm still torn as a lot of individuals seem to have been burned by third party warranty companies from what I'm reading. So I'll do some more research and go from there.

Have a great weekend!

Yes, I'm reading some of the stories about people being burned by third party warranty companies. However I am reading a few good stories so I am torn whether or not I should purchase an extended warranty. And if I do, with whom. I just don't want to be stuck with a $5k transmission bill if it goes in the next year or two.

I don't know what kind of car you're considering but a lot of people in these forums have gotten great deals from Black Pontiac and their gmoutlet.com. These are heavily discounted GM Protection Plan service contracts.
I understand Black is also working with Warranty Solutions which is the former GE service contract company that Wachovia/Wells fargo now owns.
Same reliable company with heavy discounts but these programs are on all makes.
check out 5starwarranty.net.

Go to GOOGLE and type in GM OEM extended warranties or Chrysler OEM extended warranties. Plenty of good info out there. I had a Chrysler PT Cruiser and bought an OEM Chrysler warranty from a dealer in (I believe in Indiana) at a great discounted price. Hope this helps.
