-But you're absolutely right.

I've always suspected that bit about claims being less likely to be paid the closer a customer got to having his benefit outweigh his purchase price.

Ultimate Warranty Corp, based in Ohio, has collapsed. They will likely drag their 'insurer' down with them. Surprise, surprise. They are still scrambling to figure their $$, so don't expect to get claims paid anytime soon. Most contracts I've seen have a big VSC in the upper left corner, with Ultimate Warranty Corp. in the fine print. The are 'insured' by Capital Assurance Risk Retention Group, based in South Carolina.

Thanks for the update.

You would think that any "informed consumer" would not have purchased such a policy from such a company, but we know they sell them all the time

There website it still up and running. Acting as though they are a happy little company. I can't file a claim, however. That page is mysteriously 'unavailable at this time'.

I like the idea of "self insuring" with a separate account but I am also looking at Warranty Direct and AAAuto. Does anyone have experience with them, esp. WD?

I think AAA is mechanical break down coverage and Warranty Direct has its very own thread here with allot of unhappy people

I was offered this by a wholesaler I am think of buying a C230 from.
Seems pretty comprehensive, and way cheaper than the dealer one.
I am of the mind to stick with the manufacturer though, but MB
is a rip off.

My wife has a Mercedes E320. It is at the dealership as I write this. There are 3 problems being addressed. The bill is about $1,000. I will pay about $800.00. We have a warranty from Warranty Warehouse. It is a platinum policy that they claimed was simular to a factory warranty. They have all kinds of ways not to pay you. The labor rate they approve is a joke, unless you go to a PEP Boys. The policy cost me $1300. Since then I have paid about $800 for repairs. I am not including maint. The car is serviced regularly by MB. In the end, if you keep the car long enough you could save some money, but not as much as you might be lead to believe

i bought a used CPO 2007 nissan morano AWD with 14K miles on it from nissan dealer.

paid, $24,200 inc. nissan 100K miles pre owned preferred extended warranty.

the car came with 100K/7 yr power train warranty under nissan cirtified program covering engine, transmission, AWD, and fule pump..

the extra coverage cost me $1200 for covering suspension, steering, breaks, electrical, and AC after 26?3 yr factory coverage

this is moranos last year of production until new model comes out later this month..

looking at service agreement i just received, i have 60 days to cancell with $50 cancellation fee.

the nissan Cirtified covers 460 parts for 100K miles while the extended warranty will cover 1150 parts.

should i take chace and return the warranty for refund through the dealership where i bought it?

thanks for your input.
