I'm probably going to buy an extended warrenty when I get an Altima Coupe this fall...but wanted advice. One deler gave me a pamphlet for a "Fidelity Warrenty Services" package, which I am assuming isn't as good as something direct from Nissan. Is the NissanExtendedWarrenty site legit? Is that the same thing I would get at the dealer if I asked about it? It seems that that doesn't cover wear and tear...is it hard to find a policy that does? Any help/advice is appreciated...I get the feeling the dealer might not be as helpful as I would like...

You should be able to get information from within the Nissan corporate site - or call Nissan's customer service # and ask them for the true name of their extended care plan (if you are in questioning the sites legitimacy). Also, very very few programs cover wear and tear items - the original bumper to bumper will cover some things (unless it's excluded in the fine print) but once the extended warranty kicks in (because of time or mileage) then those once covered parts might not continue to be covered (ie. windshield wiper blades, brake pads, interior surfaces (cloth/leather)).... I wouldn't stress over finding a policy that covers all of the car including wear and tear - those items are generally items prone to wear (like I said brakes, wiper blades, bulbs)... BMW / Mini are the only ones that I know of that covers EVERYTHING including wear and tear in the original factory portion - it's an all inclusive warranty that also covers service of the vehicle (oil changes and such)... Do some internet google searches once you determine the true name of Nissan's plan and I'm sure you'll find a competitive price for the factory backed warranty - if your local dealer is charging an excessive amount. |

I was looking at the GM definition of Wear and Tear and find it very suspect. It sounds more like a Mechanical Breakdown. # Does the contract cover wear and tear* as well as mechanical failure and what is the difference? - Some vehicle service contracts pay for failures due to defects only. Failures due to both defects and wear and tear* are covered by the GM Protection Plan and MRP, provided the repairs are not specifically excluded in the contract coverage. - Some components are more likely to wear out than break and may not be covered in a mechanical failure only policy: # Breakdown due to mechanical failure occurs when a component fails due to "defects in materials or workmanship." # Wear and tear* occurs when a component breaks down and/or fails to perform in normal service. I would prefer the definition other contracts use.. Auto Warranty Brokers: means the inability of a properly maintained component to function as intended by the manufacturer.... not followed by "causing a mechanical breakdown." WarantyDirect's failure definition: refers to the Failure of a covered part under normal service. A covered part has failed when it can no longer perform the function for which it was designed solely due to its condition, and not due to the action or inaction of any non-covered parts. In addition, a Failure will be deemed to have occurred when a covered part has worn beyond the manufacturer's tolerances allowed for the particular Vehicle at the mileage when the problem occurs. That is a great definition except for the failure being covered vs a NON Covered failure...So if the Serpentine belt breaks and cause bent valves or a hose breaks causing OH condition and blown head gaskets....no coverage by definition.....OUCH. |

Has anyone cancelled their extended warranty and been told that you have to go to your state's Taxation Department to get part of the refund? This is what I was told and I find it absolutely ridiculous. If anyone has been through this, I'd greatly appreciate some advice. Thanks
