Mine was $25K, not $31K. You don't need to spend more than that . I know the Pacifica is not for everybody, but frankly I knew I did not want another SUV that is truck-based......One drive in the Envoy/Trailblazer was enough to convince me of that.......and that one was Motor Trend's Truck of the Year when it first came out!

In my original post, I was only complaining about the OVERUSE of MSRP's on this website in comparing vehicles to each other . This is also done in all the car mag's ...........They will wonder if the Pacifica can compete in the $40,000 MSRP range(loaded), and I have two words to say about that ...........It doesn''t ...............A nicely equipped Pacifica can be had for much less, which makes the $40,000 thing kind of irrelevant.....................everybody knows this, so why do all the car mags and car websites use ONLY this as the gospel truth in the final transacted price of a vehicle ?..............................................

I'm sorry the price was $28,090 to be exact. "I wasn't looking at the contract". BTW, I bought it in December 30, 2004 at Grainger Honda in Garden City, Ga

before you buy any car .
1. ask to see what it cost the dealer first and to show this to you on paper. Not just telling you. You can save without the employees discount.
Say the car is $32,000.00-you can get that car for $26,000.00 without the employee discount. So don't rush into anything . Do your home work first.
Go to 3 dealers and see what prices you get from them.

the savings are at least $6,000.00 no employee discount
Good luck :

AWD vs FWD by woobegone

My son is considering a used, low-mileage Pacifica, 04 or 05. Is there much advantage to AWD version over the FWD version? They live in Utah and will move to Colo. Springs soon so winter driving is a consideration. All other things being equal, how much of a price difference should he expect between AWD and FWD?

I'm looking for the same feedback on fwd vs awd. I am in Upstate NY, lots of snow ice in winter . I drive approx 800 miles a week, mostly highway. I have a Ford Escape (AWD) company car that is wrecking my back/shoulder/neck. Have option to switch to Pacifica , but...No AWD option only FWD. I hear the PAC is about 1000 lbs heavier than Escape and has good all weaher tires...anyone have experienced with winter driving and FWD model?...would you recommend snow tires? Gimme all the pros and cons, maybe I have missed some considerations.

FWD is better by rodut

Ours is a FWD and we live in Canada. It drives perfectly on snow (the FWD has traction control, the AWD doesn't).

The key is the gas consumption and the reliability.

The posted gas consumptions are about the same (FWD and AWD), but in reality the FWD gets what the book says, but often AWD owners reported gas consumption a lot worse, especially in winter, when the AWD system works with cold (thick) oil inside. The laboratory tests were probably done with the cars heated. Our FWD Pac gets over 20mpg in mixed real life driving, and on highway it can reach 25mpg on constant low speed (80Km/h = 50miles/h).

Reliability wise, the AWD is a complicated system, definitely lots of things will go wrong as the car ages, and the most reliable AWD system is the one you don't have at all. If it's not there, it can't break. So FWD is the wise way to go.

Also the FWD feels faster than the AWD, because all that friction is eliminated, so more of the engine power reach the wheels, instead of being converted in heat and lost ! The Pacifica is not exactly a rocket, so that extra power reaching the wheels could be useful.

Thanks for the inof and reassurance about the FWD...I did not realize that it has traction control (and the AWD does not). I think I will make the switch to the Pacifica and give the Escape back!

The only reason the AWD version doesnt have traction control is because it doesnt need it, it is an AWD! and the reason the lower end model pacs have the traction control is because it doesnt have an AWD system. Traction control and AWD system are not the same but they basically do the same thing, which is making sure the wheels do not slip and slide when needed for traction. You can look at it this way. An AWD system has all the abilities of a traction control system and more but not the other way around. IMO, if you do live in harsh winter weather climates then it is much safer to go with an AWD vehicle.
