Besides the $4000+ employee discount and $2000 Chrysler rebate, we got an additional $1000 CarMax discount and their "processing fee" was only $149. A lot better than the $500-$700 dealer fee quoted by other dealers. Plus no pushing to get us to buy dealer add-ons, extended warranties, etc. The MSRP was just over $35K and we got it out the door with tag, tax, & title for less than $30K. You might be able to haggle an even better deal with some dealers, but this was a no-haggle, no frustration experience and a pleasant one at that! We opted against the factory GPS Navigation system in favor of an aftermarket Garmin unit. More features, portable from vehicle to vehicle, and 1/2 the price through eBay stores. Now I just have to find those chrome 19" wheels! |

They gave me two out of the three, plus you have to figure all those parts probably cost them half of what the consumer pays.

so disappointed in the resale value and the ability for anyone to want a used pac. I sold my Toyota Highlander with 50k miles in just 2 weeks and had tons of calls. AND sold the Highlander for more money then I am trying to sell the pacifica.

To start off...It looks to me that there is quite a bit of room to negotiate below the employee price and current rebate on an '05 pac. I used to think the invoice prices listed on Edmunds and Consumer Reports were reliable but I'm beginning to think the dealers are just concealing their actual costs in other ways and the invoice prices are quite artificial. We just bought an '05 touring with most options and the MSRP was $36,600. After "employee pricing" and rebates the price was $30,407. Here's where I feel there is more room to negotiate...We originally were offered $3500 for our trade. Edmunds specs said $3843 for trade-in, $4939 for individual sale, and $6151 for retail value. Carmax offered $4000 cash. I negotiated the dealer up to $6300 for the trade in...this money had to come from somewhere and I don't think the used car manager gave all of the additional $2800 to make the deal. I'm not sure where the additional $2800 came from but I would definitely try to get below what the dealer is advertising somehow...its tricky but the money can come from either side. I used to think it was best to sell your old car and not take a hit on the trade in value...In this instance I actually did better using it as a trade-in and saved money on taxes and the inconvenience of trying to sell. I'm curious what you all think...I hate buying cars...also, the Pacifica is great! |
