Going back for 4th new fuel pump. by brad18
Aug 28, 2006 (8:57 am)
I just had another new fuel pump installed and it failed in the first 50km (same as the first 2 replacement pumps.) The passenger side of the fuel tank is not transfering to the driver side. This is why the sensors go from reading 1/2 full to empty instantly. If the driver side of the fuel tank is empty then the fuel line to the engine is dry and the vehicle will not run, even though the passenger side of the tank is near full. The Chrysler repair instructions say that the drivers side of the tank should never be lower than the passenger side of the (saddle bag style) fuel tank. There are 3 possiblities for this problem as far as I can tell. 1) The fuel pump does not have enough volume and pressure to supply the 58psi required by the fuel injection system; and maintain the fuel transfer from the passenger side of the fuel tank. 2) The siphon venturi is not designed properly for the volume/pressure required 3)The siphon hose is too small for the amount of fuel required to be transfered. Either way it is not the owner's fault or responiblity for the failure of the system and Chrysler will not address the problem. It is easier for them to keep replacing the parts until the problem is resolved rather than correct the design. In the meantime everyone with this problem is inconvienced at best and endangered at worst. Dr. Z. looks good in TV ads but does not measure up to the words.

Yes? Do you want to say something? By your emoticons, I assume you aren't happy with the list? If that's the case, here's a list to ponder:

'05 Pacifica = 1 recall and 43 TSBs
'05 Honda Pilot = 2 recalls and 77 TSBs
'05 Chevy Trailblazer = 1 recall and 122 TSBs
'05 Ford Explorer = 2 recalls and 48 TSBs

Which vehicles were you considering along with the Pacifica and which did your wife prefer?

Well, like I said, the choices are limited when the wife refuses to get a minivan. We had a Pilot for 2.5 years and really liked it. But the wife drove the heck out of it (about 55k miles in that time). The numbers worked out to where it just made sense to trade at that time.

Anyway, the honda dealers were very uncooperative when we tried to get a new Pilot. Back before we bought our Pilot, I had wanted the wife to check out the Pacifica, but she wasn't interested. For some reason, this time she was. We also had previously tried the Trailblazer on for size. It just didn't have the fit, finish, and feel of the Pilot or Pacifica. After testing the Pac, she had her mind made up. She felt it was as tight, quiet, and versatile as the Pilot, while adding all the luxury features she had been missing. We had been looking for a lightly used one, but the dealer gave us such an incredible deal on a leftover '05 (this was Sept of '05), we couldn't refuse.

Well you certainly are a fan of Chrysler and have obviously had a wonderful experience with their service department. I have not. I have read your replys to people requesting advice and I don't see any real technical information being passed. What I would like to know is where you got the TSB and recall information? My dealer would not even let me see a list much less have a copy of it. Come to think of it customer service refused to even discuss the problem once they found I was 3000km past my warranty. So your points to ponder are really quite useless on a page looking for answers and not cheerleading. I hope when your pacifica reaches the 60000 to 70000km range you can still be so smug.
