Seems Ford has decided to upside the Harley Davidson edition onto a F-250 SuperDuty platform.

2004 Ford Harley-Davidson F-Series pickup

The 2004 Ford Harley-Davidson F-series pickup, which will be on sale this fall, moves from the F-150 platform to Ford Motor Co.’s super-duty platform. This is the first time the Harley package will be available with a diesel engine.

The engine is Ford’s new 6.0-liter turbocharged Power Stroke V-8.

The automaker would not reveal pricing.

Lighting will stay in the F-150 platform, but will be re-introduced in 2005.

The reason why it's switching over to the F-250 SuperDuty platform is because Ford pays Harley Davidson royalties on the name usage. Because the new F-150 will debut in a few months, and there's so much concentration on it's standard trim levels such as FX, XLT, Lariat, etc. They rather not debut the "boutique versions" yet.

So as to not lose money on name royalties, they rather switch it to the F-250 Superduty Platform, while the F-150 gets it's act together for the first 2 years. First the FX, XLT, Lariat's will debut... after a year where all factories are running, and everything is selling well, THEN such editions, or what's called "boutique versions" will come out. At that time the Lightning will be one of the first ones to debut.

I can't get the Ford media link to work, but they are saying on FordHarley.com that it is a 6.0 Powerstroke?

Yes it's Ford's new PowerStroke Diesel, 6.0L V-8 that will be used for it.
