It didn’t always work the first time. With the MDX ‘flip-key’ - “normal remote” I can deal with it. 2) Onstar! Never used it, never needed it. (It is not in the MDX and that is fine by me) The Bluetooth/cell phone work just fine. Alas, I heard OnStar is going digital and all the installed OnStar systems will be obsolete – they are analog. 3) Paddle shifters on the steering wheel. While they are nice to have – They are difficult to use in turns! The manual shifting on the transmission works just fine (On the MDX). 4) The RL has shades on the back 3 windows. (2 manual / 1 electric). Wouldn’t it just be easier to tint the windows ala MDX? (I’m sure there is some rule – somewhere forbidding this. Whatever...) 5) Of course, the tiny trunk. The 2007 MDX: The purchase experience wasn’t bad. I was surprised that the roof rack and auto dimming mirror are options! Huh?? 1) I purchased before Christmas to do some traveling. I was able to accommodate the following: - 4 adults and 1 child (Center of second row) - Behind the second row: 4 decent sized duffle bags / 1 “pack and play” / 1 bouncy saucer thingy / 1 Stroller / 1 large bag of baby accessories and food / 4 winter coats / a few presents... AND I COULD STILL SEE CLEARLY OUT THE BACK WINDOW! 2) The ride (Comfort setting) was excellent. Even the second row passengers enjoyed themselves. (Of course, it could have been the grandchild they were paying attention to!) 3) The 110v outlet was handy when the cell phone died and all they had was the 110v charger. I think it will be nice when the little one needs to play video games on trips! 4) The motorized tailgate – Very nice. (Think: Cold and snowy - Hands full walking into the house. Turn around – beep! Tailgate is closed! 5) What happened to “Current Position” on the nav system?? It was nice when towns are densely packed. 6) The nav system has improved from the 2005 RL (more details / easier to read). (Other than #5). 6a) I like the ability to modify or search for stuff on the Nav system while under way (Yes, my passenger does all the modifying – while I concentrate on the driving!! LOL) My wife has the Lexus RX 330 and once you start moving, you cannot modify/search for anything in the nav system. I don’t like the Lexus touch-screen. 7) They ‘pulled’ the Climate controls out of the “Nav computer”. The Climate controls now have a dedicated row for 1 button operation. Much better! 8) On the stereo display – There is a Cell phone ‘signal meter’ always displayed. Nice touch! 9) Some people have complained about not having 4 “auto down” window buttons. I actually prefer only having the 2 for the front windows only. That way – you need to be more conscious of when you are closing the rear windows. (possibly on little fingers). Does that make sense! 10) There are 3 point seat belts AND air bags for all 7 seating positions. Granted I’ll only use this feature on occasion – still it is appreciated! 11) Headlights – very bright! 12) Driving (With Sport Suspension): Very responsive / Smooth!!! / Corners nicely. I dare say better than the RL. (I can’t believe I said that!) 13) I don’t mind that it doesn’t do 0-60 in 5 seconds. (Mind the double negative!) It is an SUV, it does the job very well. 14) For the aforementioned “Christmas trip” (~700 miles / within 10 MPH of speed limit – Thanks to the 2005 RL, Oops! ) – Mostly highway: 19 MPG (I won’t get into the MPG debate...) 15) My cell phone fits nicely in the “Not an Ashtray” tray. (The small things in life!) I hope this helps those contemplating a purchase... I plan to keep this car for a LONG TIME! |

In the case of the BMW, Audi and Cad, all vehicles are 6's, with 3rd row seating, nav, entertainment packages, Bluetooth, adaptive suspension, power reardoors, sunroofs, upgraded sound systems, upgraded headlights, etc. The Benz is, of course, a different class of vehicle, with an 8, 7 speed auto and genuine 3rd row seating. If a potential buyer looks only at the features and technical items, the MDX is the best value. If a potential buyer imputes value into the 'brand', that is a highly personal issue that each and every individual must consider. And while buyers in this category might not have to be overly sensitive to price, the difference between a MDX and the next cheapest comparion (the SRX) is about $11,400 gross including sales tax (provincial and federal). Compared with the BMW, the difference increases to just under $35k. And one final comment, the value of the 'brand' must include, I would have thought, some assessment of what it provides in terms of dealership support. And as we all know all too well, each and every dealer (regardless of brand) represents a different level of support. Where I live, the Acura dealer has been superb, the Benz dealer has a very good rep (based on anecdotal evidence), the GM dealer also has a very good rep, and the BMW dealer is brand new and does not give one a warm and comforting feeling when you first walk into the showroom. Anyway, I hope this helps. |

(I’m sure there is some rule – somewhere forbidding this. Whatever...) I believe you are correct about the "rule". When Subaru reclassified their Outback wagons (and sedans!?!?) as trucks, one of the reasons they cited was the ability to tint all the windows. Unfortunately, some Acura sales staff are claiming the fully tinted windows make the auto-dimming rear view mirror unnecessary. (Hence, it is now a dealer add-on.) While that doesn't bother me, it stinks of cost-cutting. |

Replying to: justg0 (Dec 31, 2006 9:50 am) FWIW, I agree with other posters here. The Q7 and GL450 are both full-size SUVs, while the MDX is technically a mid-size. However, the Q7 is a little short on interior space. It's a smallish full-sizer. And the MDX, while short in length, is actually a very wide vehicle. Making it larger inside than the average mid-size. So, the two are comparable in terms of size. (Though price, utility, and other factors still separate them.) The GL450 is another story, though. I haven't spent any time in one, but, based on the specs, I'd say it's a genuine full-size rig. I don't doubt that it's a terrific full-sizer. I'm just not certain that someone in a position similar to yours would require such a vehicle. |

Replying to: eclipse2 (Jan 02, 2007 6:13 pm) It's a clumsy solution if all you're doing is heading into town for a night, but it works well for long trips and situations when you have the interior packed to capacity. My obstacle is a pair of greyhounds. Can't really pack boxes on top of them, so they own the cargo area. I got one of those hitch-carriers for additional gear, but I use it semi-frequently for many other things. |

Picked up my MDX (Sport, Silver/Ebony) last week and have a few hundred miles on it. Quick question for other owners, is anybody getting a subtle "clattering" noise at low speed? I'm talking 5-15 mph going the 100 or so yards from my driveway to the end-of-block turn. Happens when I'm barely on the gas. Not thrilled with the audio, though, have to fiddle with the settings a bit to get them to where my (old) ears "think" the music should be. Otherwise, fantastic vehicle, actually got 24mpg on a (mostly) freeway drive/tankful last weekend. |
