LOL. Things do tend to run amuck here, don't they...

Yes, I think the Edmunds number is a bit slow. I think when we get more data to compare, we'll probably find the MDX runs an average of 7.5 seconds or so.

Lightening fast? No. But I don't think the MDX was meant to be a drag racer. Acura was going for canyon carver with this machine. Get it going and throw it into turns. That's where they hope people will find the fun. The engine is just there so you can go from one corner to the next with as little time wasted as possible. And the reviews do suggest that it's plenty fast once you get it off the line.

Whether that sort of thing appeals to you is the question.

p.s. MT publishes the single best time for a vehicle. They might get runs of 10.1, 9.5, and 8.5, but the one they publish is 8.5 seconds.

Thanks V. I think 7.3-7.5 is definitely the right range!

Somewhere around here is a whole story on how Edmunds conducts the instrumented testing of reviewed cars, altitude adjustments, etc.

Naturally I can't find the durn article now.

altitude adjustments

Altitude is for flying; elevation is for driving. Maybe that's why you couldn't find it.

Seriously, I did a quick search and couldn't come up with it either.

Msn autos reports 0-60 time of 7.34s for the 07 MDX. Quarter mile in 15.78s at 90.60 mph. I too questioned the 8.1 secs reported by Edmunds. By comparison the old MDX weighs about the same as the new and made 0-60 in about 8.0 secs. WIth extra 40 hp and 25 lb-ft of torque, 7.3-7.5s makes much sense for the 07 MDX.

Altitude is for flying

lol, you'd think I'd learn by now. Lots of testing has been done at Willow Springs International Raceway, which isn't at sea level; many of the performance reports here have noted the elevation, temp at testing, etc.

I thought I read a story about moving the performance testing to a site closer to the home office and one that was near sea level, but I don't see it anywhere now. Guess I'll have to visit one of the blogs and ask.

The conditions are listed in the notes from the Full Test article.

Temperature (Fahrenheit): 71
Humidity: 13.7
Elevation (ft): 1121
Wind: 11

But I don't see anything there which I'd consider remarkable.

In the acceleration notes, the tester noted that brake-torquing at launch did not improve the measured times. Maybe he was having a bad day. Maybe the specific MDX he was testing had been abused. Maybe it hadn't been broken in. Could be any number of things.

Frankly, I don't feel that one mediocre test result is anything to get worried about. If it turns out that more tests start showing up with results in the 8+ range... then we can give Acura a smack.

MDX 07 vs Q7 vs GL 450 by justg0

I need help from people who recently shopped for a luxury SUV and considered or ended up buying one of these: Q7/MDX 07/GL 450.

I am in the market for one right now. My needs are basically something that will fit 2 adults and 2 car seats and still have some extra space for occasional family/friends. So 3rd row is important as long as I can put 1 or 2 of the car steats there. It is important for the SUV to have excellent safety ratings, which I think all of these do. Other than that I would like it to drive like a car and also be fun for me (sport mode, acceleration, cornering, etc.) - when I am not driving with kids

I would appreciate if you recently bought one of these SUVs and could share as to how/why you chose that one over the others. Also if you can share your experience so far with your new SUV.

Thanks!
