More questions by packmann

Thanks Steve, HOST for the reply to my inquiry.
I'm concerned that a wood mizer, winch , and a skid, might not do too well on a 70% slope. I will await the delivery of the V-8 Sport 4X4 4Runner and hope that some other reader of this forum has had some experience with a rear-mounted winch, connected to a universal mount on a rear hitch trailer receiver. I'm also curious whether or not the VIP securiy sysem may be a value to me. I drive to work, where I have a secure parking place. I garage my vehicle at my home. I live in a very rural mountain area, but I may well park my vehicle at a trailhead and snowshoe, hike, or mountain bike from the 4Runner. Will the VIP accessory be worth it in my situation? I can still add port installed options until late March. What accessories would any of you wished that you had added, and why?

Hello Packmann,
This is off of the automotive subject, but I wanted to ask you a question or two (if you don't mind). I live in the San Diego area and am looking for some land up in your neck of the woods. Can you tell me what town you are near and the cost per acre, land is going for? Additionally, is there more land available there? I'm also contemplating Oregon. My email address is yobow1yahoo.com (that's a one after the w). Thanks and I hope to hear from you soon.

Aftermarket Stereo Question.... by kevink32

Just placed an order for my 2005 4Runner Sport; comes in about a week. Anyways, I opted for the stock toyota stereo due to the fact that I want to put my own stereo components into the vehicle. The question is, does anyone have any experience with changing out the stock stereo for an aftermarket one. My plan is to replace the stock unit with an aftermarket Double-DIN Stereo. I have measured the slot that's in the 4RUNNER, and it seems to measure 4" by 8". From what I've read, the Double-DIN aftermarket recievers measure around 4" by 7". I'm wondering if the slot behind the stock stereo is actually a Double-DIN opening with the correct dimensions, or if some sort of mounting kit will be needed to make this fit. If a kit is needed, does anyone know where one of these can be attained? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help.....

Easiest upgrade is to swap out the OE head-unit for one out of a Scion.
I did and so have many others.
Try searching other websites, 4runner dot org, Tundra solutions dot com for info.
Scion 1804 is single disc, 1805 is 6 disc.
Don't use any other Scion mdl #, these are the newer mdl's.

Hello Jay,

Have you install your Nav system yet? I have 2000 4Runner SR5 and also want to install the Nav system. How was you experience with it? Can you recommend the best solution/budget Nav system manufacture/online vendor that I should get for my SUV?

Thanks,
Bryant

Ended up buyign the OEM 05 Chromatic Mirror from my toyota place... Very easy install... took about 30 min - the dealer said it would take 3 hours.

Also ordered the homelink from Conicelli (Online) for $70.00. The unit(OEM) replaces the current overhead console. has the two lights, sunglass holder, and sunroof switch - it adds three homelink buttons. Very easy install about 10 min. dealer wanted 300.00 to install.

READING THIS FORUM HAS REALLY PAID OFF!! THANKS EVERYONE!

Sunroof OR 3rd Row Seats by exoman1

We've been car shopping this week and have settled on either the SR5 4Runner or Honda Pilot. The Pilot EX-L has leather, 3rd row seat, sunroof, and LOTS of other creature comforts. In our opinion, the Pilot has the nicer interior of the two. We are willing to concede the leather in the 4Runner, however definitely want BOTH 3rd row seating as well as sunroof. From all the inventory I have seen as well as Toyota website, I just learned that you can have one or the other but not both at SR5 or Limited trim levels! How ridiculous is that?!? The only way to have both is to get an aftermarket sunroof which we're apprehensive about. Anyone have experience with an aftermarket sunroof in the 4Runner?
