RE: Borla / TRD by bryancos by spike

I asked that question of the TRD folks awhile back. Here's the reply I got:

The dual exhasut for the 4 runner is available and it can be purchased from
any local Toyota dealer, retail is $899.95. The system is made in house by
TRD and not by Borla. We only have available one system and it exits the
sides of the vehicle, and as far as warranty, no TRD part if installed by
the Toyota dealer affects the existing warranty on the vehicle.

Dear TRD,

On your homepage, I see a new dual catback exhaust for the 4Runner with
4.7L V8, but I can't find it in the online catalog? What's up?

I would like to have a local TRD dealer install on my '03 4Runner. What's
the price? Would it affect my warranty in any way? Is this the system made
by Borla? Is it possible to modify for rear exit?

Thank you.

bryancos - you will love the homelink mod - and it's very easy to do. I bet you got the cheapest price going through Partznet - they are very good.

john dode - keep us posted on your progress with the autodimming mirror with compass, where purchased, easy of install, etc. I saw it mentioned on T4R.org

Photo Link - XM Satellite Commander installation by alfster1

Here is a link to photos of my Terk XM Commander unit in my 2003 4Runner Limited. It was professionally installed at Circuit City within 2 hours at a cost of around $87.00. This was the cleanest install available (IMHO). I also considered having the display located near the moonroof controls, but was afraid of having the technicians make a possibly costly mistake.

I will be adding photos from time to time. Please leave me feedback

Hi-Can't access the photo's. Do you need to allow public access? Plus did you lose the steering wheel controls for the "standard" 4R radio?

I have restored public access to the link. Sorry about that.

Reference #452 below....

I have recently added a Terk XM Commander to my 2003 V8 4Runner Limited and had it installad at Circuit City. Their installation department actually did a pretty good job and it took them approximately 2 hours to complete.

I had the XM display unit installed on the raised lip between the cupholders and the gear selector area. It complements the interior colors very well. There is only a small protruding wire that would indicate that this was an aftermarket install, but is not very noticeable. The XM module itself is hidden in the dash while I had the extremely small magnetic antenna located on the rear right corner of the roof close to the roof rack.

The sound quality is incredible with 121 XM channels to choose from. I highly recommend this product.

Unfortunately, it is not portable as other XM units are. Also, you will lose the functionality of the steering wheel mounted controls for changing channels, but adjusting the audio volume is not affected. The XM Commander Kit also includes a wireless remote and is easy to use.

****
I believe that there is an accessory available that will preserve total functionality of the steering wheel buttons, but I am satisfied with the wireless remote provided that has an RF transmitter on both the top and bottom to ensure that the remote can be used while held in virtually in any position.

One reason I did not purchase the more portable Delphi XM Ski-Fi or Roady is because I didn't want any unsightly wires or adapters in the cockpit area. The XM Commander was cleanly installed and compliments the interior nicely.

Cargo Hook question by teridemn
Apr 09, 2004 (3:16 pm)

I have a 2004 V8 Limited for ~2months. I am still noticing little "gadgets" within the vehicle such as the garbage bag holder, etc. At any rate I noticed in the manual that there are hooks available in the rear cargo area to "hook" and secure a plastic grocery bag to (loop plastic bag handle over). However I do not appear to have the hook only the receptacle to receive the "hook". I asked one of the service guys & he thought it was an accessory. Although I cannot find it anywhere. Does anyone have these hooks? If so did they come with your vehicle or did you order?

Thanks for your help.

LOL, the garbage bag holder is practically a joke, imho. Basically, I think that the way it is used properly is to take a plastic shopping bag (ie. the kind you get when you grocery shop, and then try to loop it through the little notches. It is not very sturdy, but fortunately, if it is kicked out of place, it can be easily put back into position.

I suppose there might be some sort of fastener available that would work from The Home Depot.

As for the hooks in the rear cargo area,I do not think that they are available with the Limited as the Limited has the dual decker cargo feature. Practically speaking, purchasing a cargo net (if you don't have one) might be a better solution as the hooks don't hold objects heavier than a couple of pounds well.

I have the 2004 Limited with double deck cargo. What I sometimes do is hook the plastic grocery bags on the 'star' shaped things on the side of the car about 15 inches off the floor of the cargo area.

To this day I have not figured out a satisfactory position for the cargo net that came with my car. I have the spider net kind, I think. I have tried hooking it up at the upper level of the cargo area but have nothing to attach it to near the roof of the car. The best I have been able to do with it is to attach the hoops of the net to the under side of the upper cargo flooring, and attach the net hooks to the tie down hooks on the floor of the cargo area near the back door, but it still doesn't seem quite right. I welcome any suggestions as to how to propery hook up the spider cargo net.

To use the spider net, you need to use the plastic hooks on the underside of the upper cargo deck and attach the other two loops to the cargo rings just aft of the rear seats. Hope that makes sense. I'll be putting up more fotos in my Yahoo photo link shortly.

To use the "Star shaped things," you need to have the pouch type net, which is available on ebay for about $20 plus postage. At the dealer, I believe it is about $35 (your price may vary).
