So you are basically paying for a 3 year, 50,000 mile warranty, that won’t kick in until 4 years or after you hit 50k miles. I’d rather set aside the $1400 and let it accrue interest for 4 years.   Ask yourself how long you plan on keeping the car. If it’s under 5 years, definitely pass.   Acura also has a base warranty for the powertain for 6 years, 70k. See what the extended warranty covers and make sure it doesn’t overlap. Why pay twice? Does the warranty transfer if you purchase a new car?   We bought the extended warranties many moons ago when we got our first Acura's. We got the warranties for the exact same reason you mentioned. So far, we never needed them, and have since passed on all extended warranties. Our Acura's are our 'go' cars, which is an acronym for gas and oil. That's all they ever needed, many passed the 100k mark with ease. Excuse me while I go knock on wood.

Passed but did call Acura Corporate and was told Acura Care Extended Warranty prices will vary from dealer to dealer. Googled Honda Care and Acura Care and got several on line quotes - cheapest one for 7 yrs/100k was $1140. Talked with a Tennessee dealer who said that was dealer cost and he couldn't match it. Can't remember which dealer had the low quote, but it was somewhere on the east coast. There are any number yrs/miles combinations that one can purchase; one must predict how long/how many miles before the car is traded/sold I guess. Googled today and came up with http://www.bernardiwarranty.com/ that looks very competitive. According to what I've been able to discern, the warranty is transferable for a $50 fee. One offeror advertised that the the entire warranty cost would be refunded if there were no claims filed by warranty's end. Lastly, was also told by Acura corporate that one could buy the extended warranty and get the "new" car rate if the odometer had 5,999 miles or less; can't remember the time limitation. For an 08' auto without navi the best I could do was $26.5. Unfortunately the body is changing on the 2009. I hate buying a car to then have the body change a year later.

Replying to: flats (Jul 16, 2007 1:11 pm) A dealer in the Chicago area told me the refreshed 2009 TSX will be coming out in April-08. I'm planning on purchasing a 2008 model in March/April (hopefully at a huge discount). I recently found a dealer that was discounting a 2007 $3,400 below a 2008 model ($25,600 vs $29,000 both w/o nav). In March/April, I'm hoping they will discount the 2008 model even more.

Replying to: midnightcowboy (May 15, 2003 6:18 am) Hi, I have the option of buying a 2005 base (auto) w/no Nav for 23K, it has 17,000 miles or purchasing a 2007 (auto) Demo model, TSX w/NAV, and it has 2500 miles...both cars are silver, with black interior.....from what I reading, I think there was a small bump in horsepower on the 2006, but from everything I've seen, the horsepower is the same from 04-07. I know the 07 has bluetooth and tire monitoring system as a standard feature, that the 05 doesn't have.....besides the basic standard features, is there a reason why I may want to purchase the 07 TSX? If all is the same mechanically, then I'll probably go with the 05...thanks in advance! I was considering similar vehicles myself, but in the end I went with a new vehicle instead of a used. If you're financing, you may find that the lower APR available for new vehicles, and some of the deals available on new 07's may make the gap closer than you realize. Considering financing, my total costs on the new 07 will be cheaper than some of the best deals I saw with used low mileage TSXs. But, if you've got a good deal on the 07 w/nav, go that route, I think you'll be happy and I doubt you'll regret it.
